Older Comments about Jwala...

so sad when connections bring their horses across the world to race, & do not get to bring them home. Jwala was euthanized because of extensive injuries. Rest in Peace.

  • AmbitiousD · I'm not sure. I'd have to watch the race again, but if there was anything that is worthy of discipline, the HKJC will ensure it happens to the riders. · 1237 days ago

I will take Jwala if a local rider is up.
AtTheRaces.com reported today that G1 Nunthorpe Stakes winner, Jwala, may end her career racing in the G1 Breeders Cup Turf Sprint in November. Trainer Robert Cowell said the 5f G1 Prix De l'Abbaye at Longchamp over Arc weekend is definite, but since Jwala will be retired to broodmare status after this season and since she now has the "win and your in" entry for her win in the Nunthorpe, they may indeed take use the Breeders Cup invitation for her final start.
The 40-1 Jwala holds off Shea Shea in 2nd and Sole Power in 3rd to win the G1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York.

  • ILuvTurfRacing · @jonquil, I read where it said this was Steve Drowne's first G1 win since 2007. That's hard to believe. Jwala ran kind of sub-par race in the G2 King George Stakes, but prior to that run she'd been running really well. A couple 2nd's in listed races at Haydock & Ayr and she'd son the listed City Walls Stakes at York back in July. But this was a huge run for her to have Shea Shea & Sole Power in her rearview. · 1344 days ago
  • jonquil · @ILoveTurf, it's a lot easier to believe when you realize Steve Drowne suffered from (I think it was) a heart problem that was misdiagnosed as seizures originally, thus his driver's license and jockey's license were revoked. The license was restored after he was properly diagnosed, but by then it had been a year, I think? Steve was Al Kazeem's original rider, but by then James Doyle had managed to hugely impress and so Drowne found himself having to start from the bottom up again. As for that last race for Jwala, I didn't think that race was a good one to judge the horses by as it was just not a good race - half the field was hampered by Moviesta darting left in front of them and Jwala had a terrible start from the stalls, then got completely cut off from any running because she was at the back when Moviesta drifted and half the field got shut out of the race. Moviesta's a good horse, but that was not a good race by any means. · 1344 days ago
