In the final start of her career, J. Larry and Cindy Jones’ Just Jenda went out a winner and re-affirmed her love for Monmouth Park by capturing the 65th running of the Grade 2, $300,000 Molly Pitcher Stakes, while A Brilliant Idea stormed home to take the Junior Champion Sunday at Monmouth Park. Monmouth Park’s overnight stakes usually come up salty, but Sunday’s $100,000 Monmouth Beach Stakes has come up unusually strong for the 2010 running. The race attracted three graded stakes winners and one graded stakes-placed runner among the nine fillies and mares entered to run one mile and 70 y...Read More
In breathtaking fashion Jerry and Ann Moss’s superstar Zenyatta dominated the $500,000 Apple Blossom (G1) Friday at Oaklawn Park and pushed her unbeaten record to immortal status and topped it off with a bow to a crowd of 44,973 adoring fans.  Under jockey Mike Smith, the 6-year-old Kentucky-br...Read More

Any questions about two-time champion older female Zenyatta’s prowess on a dirt surface were answered with a huge exclamation point on Friday at Oaklawn Park.Read More

  • rossington · Heaven help us, is it possible that she may skip across the conventional dirt even faster than she does across a synthetic track? If she does, there's going to be a lot of disappointment for other thoroughbred's this season, that race against Zenyatta. Granted, the competition that was supposed to be there wasn't, but if you'll pardon the pun, to "Be Fair", Zenyatta never broke out of any faster of a clip than an exercise canter for the whole race. She was under a hand ride the whole way, and found herself at the lead so fast, she almost looked confused as to what to do. IMO, if Rachel Alexandra had been at the Apple Blossom today, the fractions would certainly have been faster, but the outcome of the race wouldn't have changed one iota. If Mike Smith, who never ask for anything the whole race, would've had to ask for Rachel today, Rachel would've found more there than what she's capable of handling. IMO. · 1471 days ago ·
  • humphrey · Winning on dirt is not anything new for her. She won this same race a few years back. · 1470 days ago ·
Compared to what it was supposed to look like, the field for the April 9 Apple Blossom Invitational Handicap (gr. I) is a major disappointment. A field of only five, led by undefeated two-time champion Zenyatta, was drawn.Read More
If you can take the afternoon off Friday, consider it. If not, set your TIVO. Because Zenyatta is running again. It's not the $5 million "Race for the Ages" since principal owner Jess Jackson decided not to bring Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, but the $500,000 purse in the 1-1/8 mile Apple Blos...Read More

Exactly six weeks from today the "Race for the Ages" is supposed to take place at Oaklawn Park. Whether or not Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta meet in the Apple Blossom remains to be seen, but we have reasons to be hopeful. If you are wondering why there has been little promotion for th...Read More
Suspend reality for a moment and imagine that Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta are both ready to run in the newly-minted $5 million G1 Apple Blossom Invitational at Oaklawn on April 3. Yes, I believe it’s highly-unlikely that Rachel—who has posted only one official workout since her Woodward victory on...Read More
After obliterating the field in the Alabama Stakes (G1) in her most recent start, Careless Jewel will seek her fifth consecutive win on Saturday in the $750,000 Fitz Dixon Cotillion Stakes (G2) at Philadelphia Park. Read More

  • rossington · After seeing her performance at Philadelphia Park today, and her 2 other recent romps in the Alabama Stakes and the Delaware Oaks, Carless Jewel is a filly that has really come into her own. She may be the one to beat in the Ladies Classic if Zenyatta runs against the boys, and maybe even if she doesn't. Carless Jewel and Icon Project are 2 fillies that I think either could more than hold their own with Rachael Alexandra or Zenyatta. · 1659 days ago ·
  • Rossington · With Rachael Alexandra on the sidelines for the rest of the year, and the 2009 Breeders Cup Classic or Ladies Classic likely to be Zenyatta's swan song, I anxiously await the 2010 racing season. I think it possible that next year we may get to see a race somehow, somewhere that both Rachael Alexandra and Careless Jewel may both be entered in. What a speed duel that would be. I think it's possible because R.A. isn't likely to run every race she run's next year against colts. That said, they're likely to hook up somewhere down the road. That's a race I won't want to miss. · 1634 days ago ·
The Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1) was an option for Godolphin's FLASHING (A.P. Indy) following her respectable third-place effort in the Presque Isle Downs Masters S. This year's Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic (G1) is shaping up to be a repeat of 2008, with most of the same cast and crew re-opposing reigning champion ZENYATTA (Street Cry [Ire]).
