Crystal Water Stakes winner John Scott, scratched from last Saturday’s Santa Anita Handicap, is a candidate for the Grade II San Luis Rey Stakes at 1 ½ miles on turf March 16, trainer Carla Gaines said.
Trainer Carla Gaines said Crystal Water winner John Scott would pass the Big 'Cap in favor of another race to be determined.
  • mdracing69 · Carla Gaines, who yesterday said John Scott would pass the Big ’Cap, Sunday morning said she was “not ruling it out” after the Crystal Water Stakes winner worked six furlongs under Martin Garcia in 1:11.60. · 1378 days ago
Crystal Water winner John Scott worked four furlongs on Santa Anita’s main track Sunday in 48.80, after which trainer Carla Gaines mentioned the March 2 Santa Anita Handicap as a possibility for the 6-year-old Bertrando gelding.
Much love and admiration for John Scott who switched to turf and led most of the way until Huntsville poked a nose in front--but JS came back to nip him by a nost at the wire. This in the Crystal Water at SA.
Very game win for him. Always is there at the finish.
I am curious as to what peoples thoughts are on John Scotts chances in the Pacific Classic. I have been intrigued by this horse after watching him run in the San Diego Handicap G2 where he finished second. In the paddock prior to the SD Handicap he was pretty worked up and I really thought they were going to scratch him but they didn't and he ran well finishing 2nd to Rail Trip. He has come back this year after a 2.5 year layoff.
  • slam · I'm thinking he will have good value and a descent enough chance that he will be worth taking a shot on. · 1564 days ago
  • footlick · Ran well I the San Diego. · 1564 days ago
This horse has returned this year and has dominated.
