Jeranimo, who made history Jan. 4 by winning the San Gabriel Stakes for the third time, worked five furlongs on Santa Anita’s firm turf course Saturday in 1:03.40 under Rafael Bejarano. Trainer Mike Pender is preparing Jeranimo for next Saturday’s Grade II San Marcos Stakes at a mile and a quarter on grass. Also working today for the San Marcos was Hollywood Turf Cup winner Lucayan, who went seven furlongs on turf in 1:29 for Neil Drysdale.
  • Mary Z. · That's a long way for the others to try to escape Jeranimo, so that he can't run them down in the stretch. Maybe he'll be a tad closer, earlier this time. · 972 days ago
ZATT's Star of the Week, is ... Jeranimo!
Jeranimo, smashing winner of Saturday’s Grade II San Gabriel Stakes at 1 1/8 on turf, is ticketed for the Grade II Arcadia Stakes at one mile on grass Feb. 1, trainer Mike Pender said Sunday morning. The 8-year-old won the San Gabriel for a record third time and provided Rafael Bejarano with his record sixth consecutive win in the race.
Looked good once again and is still getting it done at 8!

  • AnnaK · He looked SO good. Very cool the way he cocked his left ear going by the finish line ticker. · 999 days ago
Wow, what a race. Just flew from back to first like a bullet in the San Gabriel.
He annoys me when I bet him he losses when I don't he beats me but he's a nice horse.
AHHHHHH!!!!!!! YEAH, Jeranimo! Happy day !
Wow. I love these old guys who just keep bringin' it! Dazzling performance :)
The old guy just keeps it coming.... Love him.
Prominent New York horse owner Robert LaPenta has purchased a "significant interest" in grade I winner Jeranimo from owner B.J. Wright, it was announced Jan. 24. Jeranimo will stay in training with Michael Pender on the West Coast for the Spring before moving to the East Coast Stable of Chad Brown - Read more on BloodHorse.com: http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/75826/lapenta-buys-significant-stake-in-jeranimo#ixzz2IwtwbAOL

  • Mary Z. · I'd have to see what the field was for the Million before I ruled Jeranimo out. Depending on the set of circumstances, maybe, as he has shown tremendous late pace, and afterall, he has me on his side. · 1344 days ago
  • Mike in SB · I thought LaPenta had most of his horses with Nick Zito, can't go wrong with Chad Brown though. · 1344 days ago
He seems worthy of a start on dirt, I just wonder why now at 7? It appears he's not gelded, so I'd like to see him stand in CA.

Nice win!
Jeranimo, nominated for next Sunday’s Grade II San Gabriel Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on turf, could run there or ship to Florida for the Sunshine Millions at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 19. “We could ship to Florida, his home state,” trainer Mike Pender said. “He’s a Florida-bred. There’s a dirt race there going a mile and an eighth and a turf race there going a mile and an eighth. We would opt for the turf race.”
“Jeranimo is breezing every seven days and heading towards the Breeders’ Cup,” trainer Michael Pender said. “(Regular rider Garrett) Gomez says he feels like a 2-year-old under him. He feels real strong.”
He wont win the San Gabriel its too far for him!!!
When he is on his game he is very good. But inconsistent.
Would like to see him and Smart Bid at Saratoga this season (just did a comment on Bid's page) in an endurance race. Both have it in their blood and I'd love to see them go head to head on the stretch of a 1 1/16. Here's to hopin'.
