Impressive win the Red Legend. Im glad his connections found a distance that works well for him.
J P's Gusto will not run in the Kentucky Derby. He will be sent to trainer Mike Hushion in New York.
I think the Bay Shore would be a nice spot for him. I think he would like cut back to one turn and he could good to the Withers and maybe have fun with him in the Preakness, he's only three once. He also might mature more so he might be able to get the distance if he gets the perfect trip. That's what I would do.
I think that they are setting themselves up for failure by letting everyone and their uncle ride him....he's a decent horse and he needs a consistent rider who's willing to really learn how to ride him.
3/13, impressive workout= breezed 5 furlongs in an 59.4, this one is ready for the Rebel
Excited to see what this ridgling can do in the Rebel. This horse finishes well and should like the extra distance
DRF is reporting that trainer David Hofmans basically kicked the owner out - said there was too much third-party interference (from a racing manager). He's now going to Joe Petalino's barn at snowy Oaklawn.
J P's Gusto switches target to Oaklawn's Southwest
I will be keeping an eye on this horse. I am a novice to horseracing, but it seems like he got a bad ride from Talamo in the Cash Call. Any thoughts
  • 12 Clip · J.P's Gusto is one to keep an eye on. I like the way he closed for 2nd in the Cash Call futurity at Hollywood Park. He showed a dimension other than being up front. I'm not so sure it was a bad ride by Talamo. He had the 2 gate but was sequestered inside with no gaps to shoot. By the time J.P got going, Comma to the Top had already captured the lead and never looked back. Although Comma was put away with about 75 yards to go, it made J.P's gust at the end look better than it was. But still you have to like the way he galloped out strong after the wire. This David Hoffmans trainee, might just have something to say, on the west coast. Tab Tote for later. · 1948 days ago
I dont understand why this horse is sitting at the no.2 spot. Apart from the hopeful, what has Boys at Tosconova done again?

  • horses · Good question, but it's really splitting hairs. Neither have gone two turns. JP got an 86 beyer, Tosconova got a 90. Both will need to improve and stretch out, so lots of questions remain. · 2081 days ago
  • Funundrum · Thanks for clearing that up for me b/c i was really confused. i guess it's one of those things that can go either way: quantity or quality. · 2080 days ago
I don't think this horse can get any better than he is, a really solid winning horse.
  • humphrey · Was not pressed a bit yesterday. have to see what his one can do when there is a serious candidate to beat him looking at him eye to eye. · 2086 days ago
J P's Gusto led nearly every step of the way in winning the Grade II Best Pal under a solid ride by Patrick Valenzuela, who was aboard many times in the early career of Best Pal, to be enshrined in the Racing Hall of Fame Friday. "The colt really looks good," trainer David Hofmans said this morning. "He came out of the race in great shape. He's heading toward the Futurity. We'll wait 10 or 12 days and then breeze him."
$52K KEESEP'09 colt proves you don't need to spend big bucks to get a stakes winner. His dam is a stakes winner over turf and he’ll be favored in the Hollywood Juvenile Championship.
