What the Nation is saying about Ive Struck a Nerve...

Deciding that his young horse would be at a clear disadvantage coming from the 14 post in the recent Risen Star Stakes, trainer, Al Stall called an audible and sent Departing to Sam Houston Park, where he will face seven other three-year-olds in the $50,000 Texas Heritage Stakes on Saturday night. • cab2536 · The concern that Verrazano did not race as 2-y.o. is so inconsequential that it is laughable. So if had run 1 day sooner than he did, nobody would bring it up -- it's so silly. Times are different for the "modern" racehorse, horses are winning Derbies with 4 starts, having never run on conventional dirt, etc. These days it hardly matters -- tack 'em all up and send 'em out and the strongest, fastest one will generally find the wire first even if they may be a bot short on stamina. Verrazano has as good a shot at winning the Derby as any horse on the trail right now. · 63 days ago ·

  • charliep · The San Felipe is not at all a good indicator of success in the kentucky Derby. In the last 25 years, only 2 winners have won the Derby, those being Sunday Silence (who won the Santa Anita Derby) and Fusiachi Pegausus (who won the Wood). Alysheba ran 2nd in the 1987 San Felipe to Chart The Stars. · 71 days ago ·

  • charliep · The 3rd place finisher in the Bredders Cup Juvenile should get AT LEAST as many points as the horse that wins the San Felipe or the Tampa Bay Derby. We're talking about a Grade 1 champioship race versus a couple of Grade 2 races, one of which (Tampa Derby) should be a Grade 3. · 71 days ago ·
