In last year’s inaugural running of the American St. Leger, it was the globetrotting Jakkalberry owned by Darren Dance’s Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock and trained by Marco Botti that took home the top prize in the $400,000 race. That team returns this year with the British-bred Dandino in hopes...Read More
Confirming his recent form as one of the best long distance turf runners in the nation, Dark Cove torched the Arlington Park turf in course record time to win the Stars and Stripes.Read More
We have a big weekend coming up at Arlington Park, but I would first like to thank those who have been awaiting a new HHH article for putting up with my 31-60 day layoff. Perhaps I will have a good record after the hiatus, much like Dark Cove's trainer Mike Maker (26%), ideally with a better ROI. Read More

  • virgil thatcher · The turf races at AP never disappoint me-should be a great day at the track. I too will be between the paddock and rail most of the day. Definitely buy a voucher first then use the terminals down by the paddock, that area's a ghost town when 2MTP comes around and its great for last-minute wagers... · 279 days ago ·
  • travel_vic · I found that the first few seasons Arlington was all over the place. Track maintenance tells me that is typical until a polytrack course matures and settles in. the course MOST like an early dirt cours STILL is Woodbine as it has for a long time now. AND they have the best truf course in North America bar none · 278 days ago ·
Kenneth & Sarah Ramsey’s formidable Dark Cove and Team Block’s defending champion Ioya Bigtime, plus the relative dearth of marathon runners in this country leaves the field for Saturday’s Grade III Stars and Stripes Stakes at a mere half-dozen but what the race lacks in quantity is made up by the q...Read More
Dark Cove grabbed the lead with a quarter mile to run and held off late charges by Atigun and Najjaar to win the 76th running of the Grade III, $111,800 Louisville Handicap by a half-length on Saturday afternoon at Churchill Downs.Read More
  • kailiking · Atigun's progress on the turf continues to amaze me. Hope to see a more free running Atigun in his next attempt, and continue his dam's bottomside tradition of Speed on the front end. With Devil's Bag and Dr. Fager representation...what more could you ask for. · 323 days ago ·
Team Block’s Ioya Bigtime, winner of the 2012 Kentucky Cup Turf (GIII), finished a disappointing ninth in the Elkhorn (GII) as the favorite, but he will look to get back on track in Saturday’s $100,000-added Louisville Handicap (GIII). Read More

The dream of a little gelding named Twilight Eclipse came true this past Saturday with his WORLD RECORD setting performance in the grade II Pan American at Gulfstream Park but that dream didn’t start in the hollowed grounds of the top tracks in America. Read More

  • Floridaf · He definitely will not be ignored from here on out. Thanks for telling his story! Best wishes for many more wins for Twilight Eclipse. · 388 days ago ·
  • AndyScoggin · Twilight Eclipse has found his way into a barn filled with the "best", as Albertrani trains for some of the "best". I know I would love to find a horse like Twilight Eclipse. Great article, Scott! · 388 days ago ·
With Javier Castellano in the irons, Twilight Eclipse drew away to win the Pan American by four lengths, stopping the clock in 2.22:63, breaking the world record set by Bright Thought just last week.Read More

  • rafirox · That's what makes Secretariat's 2:24 and change Belmont time so impressive. 23:3, 46:3, 1:09:4..... Very fast and kept steamrolling to finish in 2:24 and change, a record that won't be broken for a long time. Second, I wouldn't make much of these records. The turf course at Santa Anita has been producing incredibly fast times. That is why the "records" were a week apart. Twilight Eclipse was the more impressive of the two, as he drew away without much effort, IMO. · 389 days ago ·
  • travel_vic · I am a Secretariat fan: I visited him twice in Kentucky BUT, in 1973 no less than 15 track records were set at Belmont, so the course was actually juiced and his brillance has that working for him as well. · 389 days ago ·
James Karp’s 5-year-old Kentucky homebred Newsdad, who won the $150,000 Pan American Stakes (G2) last year at Gulfstream Park for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott, is back to defend his title in Saturday’s 54th edition of the 12-furlong turf course marathon in his first start since winning the Fayette...Read More
While Royal Delta’s 2013 debut promises to be an electrifying occasion Sunday, Mott enjoyed a pretty exciting day at Gulfstream on Saturday, saddling three impressive winners on the card, including Amira’s Prince, who captured the $150,000 Mac Diarmida (G2) by 3 ¾ lengths. Read More
Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott appears likely to be sending out the favorites in both the $150,000 Mac Diarmida Stakes (G2) and $100,000 The Very One Stakes (G3) Saturday at Gulfstream Park, the companion events run at 1 3/8 miles on turf with the latter for fillies and mares. Read More
It's time to support the home team. As always, I had the the pleasure of frequenting the two racetracks closest to my home in Arlington Park and Hawthorne Race Course plenty this year. Very different tracks in most ways, Arlington has always been one of my favorites, but Hawthorne does offer the adv...Read More

Lothenbach Stable’s 2-year-old Bambazonki would have been among the favorites in Saturday’s $100,000 Dania Beach Stakes at Gulfstream Park after winning his only two starts on turf at Arlington Park and Keeneland, but his connections will pass on Saturday’s race to resume his career in the $100,000 ...Read More
