What the Nation is saying about Interpatation...

A wide-ranging field of ten turf specialists, including a pair of Grade 1 winners who have made 103 starts between them, a French import looking for his first American graded stakes victory, and last year’s defending champion, will gather at Belmont Park Sunday afternoon for the 51st running of the...Read More
Winchester unleashed a powerful stretch run to collar favored Paddy O’Prado and win the 34th renewal of the Grade 1, $500,000 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational at Belmont Park on Saturday afternoon.   Winchester sat well-reserved at the back of the pack as Interpatation, last year’s Turf Cl...Read More

Al Khali may find himself at the perfect distance when he competes in the Grade 2, $150,000 Bowling Green Handicap over 1 3/8 miles on the Inner Turf Course on Saturday, September 11, opening day for the 2010 Fall Championship Meet at Belmont Park.   After taking the 2009 Grade 3 Saranac,...Read More
Telling demonstrated his affinity for Saratoga Race Course on Saturday by rallying along the inside to win the Grade 1, $500,000 Sword Dancer Invitational for the second straight year.   Deftly ridden by Garrett Gomez, Telling received a clear trip as he raced in midpack behind fractions of 48....Read More
Saturday’s $500,000 Sword Dancer Invitational at Saratoga Race Course has attracted an intriguing group that includes a horse who could give his locally based trainer his first Grade 1 victory, two horses who have combined to win the last three renewals of the race, and a pair of runners who are shi...Read More
Although still looking for his first win of 2010, dual Eclipse Award winner Gio Ponti’s elite combination of class and ability makes him the overwhelming 1-2 morning line favorite in Saturday’s 52nd running of the Grade 1, $600,000 Man o’War at Belmont Park.Read More

  • cugel the clever · It's a no-brainer decision. It must be the BC Turf. Would be an idiotic decision to run him on a surface over which he has never raced in the BC Classic against possibly three super-horses; Zenny, Rachel, and QR. 12 furlongs may be a stretch for him but he's proven himself against the best on turf. That's where his best chance lies. Better to stand a strong chance of winning the Turf than a certain out of the money finish in the Classic. · 573 days ago ·

Trainer Carl Domino knows next Saturday’s Grade 1, $600,000 Man o’War is a big step up for Midnite Silver, but the way the 4-year-old Silver Deputy colt won his last race and has been training since has him feeling optimistic.   “The distance suits him, he closed fast in his last race to win, a...Read More
With four Grade 1 victories on his resume, Gio Ponti captured dual Eclipse Awards as the top turf male and leading older horse in the country.   After going winless in his first two starts this year, Gio Ponti will seek to reassert his dominance Saturday and defend his title against 10 others ...Read More

  • arazi · This is a really good point. People forget, but Mandella is right. Very few horses come back from Dubai and are competitive in May and June. There have been plenty of flops over the years. I wouldn't toss Gio, but I would definitely spread in the Pick 4 around him. · 610 days ago ·

Two-time Breeders' Cup Turf (G1) hero CONDUIT (Ire) (Dalakhani) will look to put an exclamation point on his illustrious career in Sunday's approximately $6 million Japan Cup (Jpn-G1). • Medlocke · I really felt that Conduit would at least hit the board in the Japan Cup. He did, however, manage a 4th place finish in a race with quite a large field. But losing to Vodka in Japan is no disgrace. That would be kind of like Conduit losing to Goldikova or Dar Re Mi in his own country. Vodka is truly a champion mare who has beaten the boy's more than once in her career. · 796 days ago ·

TOKYO, Japan-- It’s not just the trains that run on time in Tokyo—the buses do, too I arrived Wednesday evening at the Keio Plaza Hotel, the official press headquarters for the Japan Cup, after a 24-journey from Kentucky. Though Gio Ponti fell short of winning his fifth consecutive Grade 1 turf race on Saturday, trainer Christophe Clement said he feels his horse has nothing left to prove on the grass. • Medlocke · The more I keep going over and over the field for the Classic, trying my best to handicap it, the more it keep's coming up in my head and on paper that Gio Ponti may have the best chance, of the American horses anyway, of any entered. I'm not sure that he can't hold his own on the pro-ride surface with Rip Van Winkle. Gio Ponti does in fact have a victory over the pro-ride. I'll likely use him somewhere on my ticket. It seems that the really good turf horses perform well on the synthetic surface, and there's no doubt in my mind that Gio Ponti is a really good turf horse. · 827 days ago ·
