With Winslow Homer off the Kentucky Derby trail, which new 3-year-old has entered the top twelve? 1. While it was certainly an excellent Super Bowl, it was also a great weekend for horse racing. On Saturday, Quality Road loaded into the gate without issue and then burned up the track to better his own track record. Zoom!Read More

HALLANDALE BEACH   David Brownlee (Bim Bam) – “It didn’t look like there was much speed in the race, so our plan going in was to go to the lead and hope to slow it down, which is the way it went. From there it was up to Eibar (Coa). He knows the horse very well. We know he’ll fight back like h...Read More
When 4-5 favorite Interactif (Broken Vow) put his head in front of the pacesetter BIM BAM (Deputy Wild Cat) in the stretch of Sunday's $125,000 Hallandale Beach S., the fans' choice appeared ready to edge away to a popular victory. That snapshot view failed to take into account the unflagging resolv...Read More
It was a big afternoon Saturday for trainer Todd Pletcher’s powerful stable with the stunning, track record performance of Quality Road in the Donn Handicap (G1) minutes after Take the Points’ big effort finishing first in the Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap (G1) before he was disqualified by the ste...Read More
The recent trends might "feel" like late bloomers have dominated the Kentucky Derby, but don't be fooled. The top four finishers of the last five Derbies averaged 3.7 starts as 2-year-olds and owned a combined mark of 34-for-79 as juveniles, a smashing 43 percent win rate. Almost half (10) of those ...Read More
Wertheimer et Frere’s Kentucky homebred Interactif was last seen finishing a game third in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G2) at Santa Anita on Nov. 7, and will likely be a solid favorite for his 3-year-old debut in Sunday’s $125,000 Hallandale Beach Stakes. Jockey Kent Desormoux rode ...Read More
It's that time of year again. Turf writers, handicappers and bloggers get an extra early start on predicting who will be in the final field of 20 on that first Saturday in May. Is it premature? No doubt. Is the field set in any way? Not on your life. But ...Read More

Edward P. Evans’ 4-year-old homebred colt Quality Road breezed an easy half-mile in 49 4/5 Sunday morning at Palm Meadows for trainer Todd Pletcher ahead of his role as the likely odds-on favorite in next Saturday’s $500,000 Donn Handicap (G1) at Gulfstream Park. A Virginia homebred son of Elusive ...Read More
In my last Derby post, I stated that a new player (Take Control) had arrived on the scene. Unfortunately, the Baffert trainee has shin problems and needs a few months to recover, so he’s off the Derby trail. Barn also has Conveyance, who had to work for his San Rafael (G3) tally on Jan 16th. He will...Read More
Two potent armies are gathering en masse on opposite ends of the country. Their objective: Churchill Downs on the first Saturday in May. The generals: Bob Baffert, who is assembling a large force on the slopes of the San Gabriels, and Todd Pletcher, who is matching him horse for horse, with his main...Read More
Bob Baffert has already begun checking off items on his “Things to do” list for the 2010 Kentucky Derby trail by working Lookin At Lucky in blinkers, with the intention of adding them for the colt’s first start. As consistent a winner as Lookin at Lucky has been, it seems he’s even better with the b...Read More

  • thedodge · Take Control is to green to make the Kentucky Derby his next start is going to be an allowance race. He needs the seasoning and will lack the graded stakes money also to make the derby a horse needs a good mind and talent. He is talented no doubt about it maybe second half of the year that's my guess. · 29 days ago
  • thedodge · As for Baffert be absolutely loaded, I don't thing so from the two i liked one Clutch Player died the other Tiz Chrome he's bred to route acts like an old pro has run fast 97 beyer yes only 6 1/2f. My worry with him he has short legs maybe he's the next Northern Dancer will have to wait. For the other's Tiny Woods Sprinter no doubt, Conveyance Dr. Steven Romans says Indian Charlie his sire and Holy Bull his dame sire are intermediate Speed (non chef-de race). And in conclusion Looking At Lucky has'nt run that fast so i'am not buying. · 29 days ago
Welcome back to Triple Crown Talk. I look forward to helping everyone get excited about the 2010 Kentucky Derby and providing information about the leading contenders. I already know there will be lively discussion, so I'm not worried about that.Read More
Of all the American 2yr.old's in training, Iteractif impresses me as much as any of them, to include Lookin At Lucky and Jackson Bend. He's only had one bad race in his career, his only out of the money finish. He ran a very respectable 3rd to Pounced and Bridgetown in the B.C. Juvenile Turf. I'd love to see them do with this colt what they did with Barbaro. Barbaro, as you well know started out on turf as well, and then they decided to try him on the dirt. The rest is history. I think they should give Interactif a try on the dirt. If he take's to it, he could be a real contender in this year's Kentucky Derby. IMO.
  • mdracing69 · I agree with your thoughts on Interactif. He broke maiden in dirt sprint bow and moved up when stretched out on turf. Love his running style versatility and would like to see Pletcher give him another whirl on the main. · 36 days ago
  • ruby · Absolutely corrrect that this guy could be a Derby contender. Can get two turns and has the right running style. · 35 days ago
My first Kentucky Derby top ten post appeared here on Nov. 15th. A few prep races have been run since, so here is my updated list. Two horses have dropped from the original list, including Homeboykris. The Rick Dutrow trainee was a disappointing 5th in the Remsen on Nov 28th. Thiskyhasnolimit, 6th i...Read More
  • cigar · Interesting list... I think Rule should be on there, Interactif is a turfer. · 62 days ago
This is the most impressive 2yr.old, by far, that I've seen race this year, on any surface. Provided he come's out of the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf in good order, I'm curious to see if at some point early into his 3yr.old campaign if his connections will try him over conventional dirt. Lot's of good horses have started out on the grass to be switched to dirt and go on to have excellent careers. Barbaro was one who started out on turf and was switched to dirt and came into Kentucky undefeated on both surface's to go on and win the 2006 Kentucky Derby.
If there's a better 2yr.old in the country right now, dirt or turf, I've not seen it. Interactif is a very impressive looking 2yr.old with a world of potential. Viscount Nelson, the very good European 2yr.old may push him a little harder than he's been pushed yet in any of his races that he's ran. Undefeated going into the B.C. Juvenile Turf, I think he'll still be at race's end.
