What the Horse Racing Nation is talking about...

Short and sweet, and simply stated, Informed Decision is the second best mare in American racing today. Behind only the great and legendary Zenyatta. I love this mare. She has a ton of talent, and is always difficult to beat in any race that she's in. She really is blessed with great ability. I look forward to seeing her race as well in the 2010 racing season. This is a mare that rarely loses, and if she is beaten, almost certainly is never off of the board. JMO.
There was a spring in the step of trainer Jonathan Sheppard in the Gulfstream Park stable area on Friday morning. Perhaps he was fresh, fit, and dangerous following a visit to see the horses he has who are wintering in South Carolina. Perhaps it was the unseasonably cold weather here, which made eve...Read More

“With the close of each racing year comes the interesting problem of the best horse…In past years this was much easier than it is in the present. Today commercialism cuts an important figure, crowding old-fashioned ‘sportsmanship’ to the wall. Horses are no longer raced purely as ‘sport’ much as we ...Read More
I really feel that Informed Decision gave one of the better performances of the Breeders Cup. No doubt, Zenyatta took the top honors for the weekend, and probably Godikova and Conduit repeating in their divisions would be next, but of the Friday races especially I thought Informed Decsion looked great. She broke well, settled in, and coming by with the close up of her and Julien Leperoux sitting aboard just stone faced. They both exuded confidence and she just looked like a horse that wasn't going to be beaten on that day. And Ventura makes for a very tough foe to take a title from.
It's all over but the debating. Zenyatta's victory in the Breeders' Cup Classic on Saturday at Santa Anita's Oak Tree meeting has reignited the debate over the 2009 Horse of the Year between her and Rachel Alexandra, who had an equally brilliant year. Read More
  • Rossington · I take nothing away from Rachael Alexandra. She's a remarkable filly that's accomplished remarkable thing's that your average filly just doesn't get done against the boy's. But that said, this is how I break down the debate, and this is just my personal opinion, I speak for no one else but myself. While Rachael has looked amazing against males, Jesse Jackson is careful to pick races where only about 2 or 3 real tough contenders are in any one race she run's against males. Zenyatta dove right into the deep end of the pool. First time ever against males, first time ever at 1-1/4, defending her undefeated record, and against one of the most loaded with talent male field's assembled all year. She faced, she raced, and she won overcoming all of these obstacle's. I kind of feel like Rachael took the easy path at Saratoga this summer when she was working extremely well and had a choice to run against Summer Bird, Quality Road, Hold Me Back, and Kensei in the Travers and took the easier race in the Woodward facing very little other than Macho Again who is 20-6-6-0 lifetime, and Bullsbay. Or even moreover from a different point of view, if the Breeders Cup Classic would have been run back east on conventional dirt at Churchill Downs, Belmont, Monmouth, or Saratoga, take your pick, and you ask Jesse Jackson to race his filly against 8 Grade 1 winning, and most multiple Grade 1 winning males, plus Zenyatta would he have put her in the race doubtful. Even on dirt this field had more competition than Jackson is comfortable with in racing Rachael against males, imo. I think it would take her racing another 5 or 6 races to compete against every male that was in this race. Every one had R.A. already penciled in as HOY before the Classic because most of the people who cover horse racing gave Zenyatta little to no chance of winning the Classic. After the way she overcame the delay at the gate, broke on the wrong lead, and was last for a good bit of the race, then to explode in the stretch to go by Gio Ponti, which is not an easy task, not only did she win, she won impressively. IMO, if Zenyatta is denied HOY after her performance on Saturday, and Rachael as well was welcome to be in that starting gate, it will be absolutely CRIMINAL and will FOREVER be a DARK STAIN an the members of the thoroughbred racing industry who make the HOY decision. Remember, this is JMO. No one elses. · 126 days ago
  • ruby · This is an interesting debate, but I'm not sure why it is a close one. Rachel was exciting, but Zenyatta beat the best on Championship Day. End of Debate. · 126 days ago
Nice hit! She definitely seemed more likely to run well versus Forever Together.
I bet Informed Decision to win the Breeders Cup F&M Sprint. I had her on a $10 to win ticket which paid $44. Not a big haul, but it was the first race that I bet on in Friday's card. I just felt that on the pro-ride that Informed Decision was the horse to beat, now 7 for 7 lifetime on the surface. I think Ventura is an awesome filly, equally as talented, but on the pro-ride surface I did and most likely would always give Informed Decision the edge. From the time she broke, and the close up shot of Leperiox's face aboard her, they both just exuded confidence as if this was a horse that wasn't going to be beaten on that day.
Despite losing the Breeders' Cup Juvenile by a head, Lookin at Lucky has emerged as the top 2-year-old in North America and will be widely considered the winter favorite for the Kentucky Derby."The consolation was, man, I have a serious horse," trainer Bob Baffert said the morning after a wide trip ...Read More

  • Rossington · I really enjoyed this year's Breeders Cup race's, highlighted by Zenyatta's remarkable win in the Classic. But this really was a weekend that showcased a great deal of female talent. Other than Zenyatta, the next biggest performances for me over the weekend were Informed Decision winning the F&M Sprint, Goldikova defending her Mile title, and Life is Sweet winning the Ladies Classic. Of the male's, I think Conduit repeating as champion in the B.C. Turf sticks out the most to me. A very classy and competitive horse that will have this championship as a great caper to a great career. But I'd also like to throw a shout out to a couple of 2nd place finishers. In the B.C. Turf, I thought Presious Passion would run himself out of the race but he showed a ton of heart digging in a taking Conduit to the edge and hanging on for 2nd against two very good horses in Dar Re Mi and Spanish Moon. Also, imo, enough can't be said about the game performance that Gio Ponti put up in the Classic. Even though losing to a superstar in Zenyatta, Gio Ponti looked as tough over the pro-ride surface Saturday as he has in some of his turf races. So prop's to Presious Passion and Gio Ponti for their terrific efforts on Saturday. · 129 days ago

A fast pace never really materialized and the speed and pressers took advantage. Informed Decision made it three in a row with a convincing win. Ventura, pace compromised, finished second while Free Flying Soul held for third.Read More

Having won 5 of her last 6 races with 1 third, this is definitely the horse to beat Friday in the F&M Sprint. I know many think Ventura is the horse to beat, but given that the race is on synthetics and Informed Decision is a synthetics specialist, I'd have to give her the nod in this race. I think she's coming in fit, confident, and ready to run. It will take a huge race from Ventura to beat Informed Decision, imo.
Of all the Breeders Cup races that will be ran on Friday, Nov.6th, this is the one race that I have a hunch we're going to see something special. Informed Decision really seems to just keep getting better and better in each race. She's 6 for 6 lifetime on this surface, and given her recent form and racing triumph's, I just don't see her losing this race. From 2008 to present day, she has 13 starts with 10 wins and 2 third's. She just seem's to have hit her best stride at the right time. I don't, however, think that the race will be a cake walk for Informed Decision. I thoroughly expect Ventura, a great filly herself, to bring her "A" game to town and give Informed Decision a rough go of it. But in the end, I really think Informed Decision prevails in this race and goes home 2009 Breeders Cup F&M Sprint champion.
Having won 5 of her las 6, Informed Decision has really gelled at the right time, and being a synthetic track specialist, is, to me, the clear choice to win the B.C. Filly & Mare Sprint. I do however, expect a very stiff challenge from Ventura for her in this race. But when all is said and done, Informed Decision wins.
Time to take a look at the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint, and last year’s winner Ventura is back to defend her title. The Robert Frankel runner is a terror on turf and synthetic ground, and she is especially dangerous around one turn. She exits a sharp late running victory against ...Read More

There is so much to discuss after the weekend's stakes extravaganza, but one race that likely had the most profound effect on the Breeders' Cup was the Goodwood Stakes (gr. I).Read More
  • Rossington · I say now or never for Zenyatta. If she had been entered in the Goodwood Stakes, Gitano Hernando or not, she could have won that race. There really wasn't much there to beat, imo. MTB who hasn't won a race since the Ky. Derby, Colonel John who runs well on the surface but is a bit overmatched in the Classic, Informed and Parading, whom neither have ran to par for some time now. So with Sea the Stars now retired, I say let Zenyatta run against the boys. Quality Road or Summer Bird are neither proven on the surface. Of the American entries, only Einstein may give her trouble. So let her run, so what if she finished 3rd to Rip Van Winkle and Midshipman. No shame in that. · 155 days ago
