What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Imperative...

Under a patient ride from jockey Tyler Baze, Majestic Harbor inhaled the early leaders at the top of the stretch and drew away to an upset victory in the G1 Gold Cup at Santa Anita.Read More

  • LAZMANNICK · The sad part is he is six years old and ran the race of his life and I don’t see him challenging the top horses in the division in future. Until yesterday he was only a G3 winner who was zero for 5 in G2 races and 1 for 2 in G3’s. IMO, the only reason he won was the speed dual. GOD, without Fury Kapori, would probably have wired this field. Every quarter in the race was slower than the previous one and they walked home that last quarter in 26.39. Speed killed. They did the first two quarters in 45.39 and the last two in 51.73, 7 1/2L slower. Clubhouse Ride isn’t a true G1 horse either. · 10 days ago ·
  • icyhotboo · After tossing the 1 and 2, it left the 3and 4 which I boxed in an exacta. However whenever you figure a pace duel, which I did, it's not usually the stalkers who win but the deep closers, because the stalkers are to close to close to the pace in the 4th quarter and give way in the fifth. It's hard to remember because it only applies to 10f races, and those distance races are as close to extinct as you can get. Even after saying that the #6 is an early stalker who was regularly getting beaten by this group and IMO should have finished behind the #3 and #4, and I haven't got a clue to the running style of the #5 or the #7 as none of the forms showed it. Thus a small exacta box was in order it seemed. · 10 days ago ·

Imperative comes into the Gold Cup at Santa Anita with a gap of more than two months since his last race, a 26-1 upset of Game On Dude in the $1.5 million Charles Town Classic on April 19. No problem there. That’s been the plan all the way.Read More
Santa Anita Notes: "Charles Town Classic winner Imperative, working for the Grade I, $500,000 Gold Cup at Santa Anita on June 28, went four furlongs on the main track Saturday in 51.20 under Kent Desormeaux. 'He went fine,' trainer George Papaprodromou said of the bargain $50,000 Bernardini claim. 'He’ll work three-quarters next week.'"
Anyone know his next race?

  • amdaman · I also hope Commanding Curve sneaks into the Kentucky Derby. His comeback race in the Risen Star wasn't a bad one, despite the bad post and a sluggish start. In his last he got pinched at the start, and was in tight at the top of the stretch. With better luck he could've placed. He's been working well at Churchill. He's won at that track, and the Derby would be his third race since the layoff. He'll probably show a bit more speed and lay fifth or sixth. He'd be a nice long shot if he gets in. Maybe not win it, but make the exotics worthwhile. · 79 days ago ·

  • tmallios1 · Sorry for wrong thead. I think Italian Ice Boo Boo is upset that we do not invite him to either "our" or "my" personal thread. Why else would he bring it up. I should at least take Vanilla Ices compliment to heart,he gave me top billing in our Alias merger. You being the more detail oriented one of the partnership will one day explain the Chrome Edsel comparison. You see, anytime Iced Tea refers to Horse Racing, the boredom sets in and i must say ADIOS AMIGOS. In regards to learning something about the game when Melted Ice or Vic start opining. Lets just say ,compare it to a college kid dropping back to 7th Grade for knowledge. But they do have a mutual admiration for themselves. Ever hear the old tale Birds of a feather-Flock Together. So in closing Ice Ice Baby>>>I and alter ego Amino give you this one time only.We give approval to spew the Give a Rats ass statement our way. Hope those eggs did not put calluses on your hands from breaking. · 79 days ago ·

gotta give credit where credit is due. he ran a hell of a race!

  • Mary Z. · As fate would have it, same closing fraction as the Funny Proposition Fleur De Lis. Missed the race, but not surprised. Monkey can say he was worried about his girl. I think monkey knows by now that pace makes the race, but his whacko ways at least make for giggles. · 81 days ago ·

  • Sullivan · Maybe you have access to what Baffert says to Smith. In the San Antonio, I assume he told him to gun foe the lead, seeing as he took several jocks off the horse when they didn't. After being burned out that way, I assume he said be close to the lead. The question this time is how much respect does he have for Moreno. If the horse opens up 6 lengths on the second time around, it will be VERY hard to catch him. · 82 days ago ·
  • tmallios1 · Unless they think they are much the best, gun him or do this or that are instructions rarely given. With a horse like the Dude. I would bet my bottom Dollar that the instructions are the same every time Smith rides him. That would be>>> Let him break clean, after 10 jumps its in your hands what to do. Like in the San Antonio,Smith was content to sit off of Bejarano. When Beja saw that he tried to grab a hold of his horse and back it down. Then the cat and mouse game continued. Smitty seeing this sent for the lead. Bejarano because of his sour taste for being tossed from the horse went again. ERGO the speed duel that knocked them both out. In the big Cap,they were a little more aggressive out of the gate, there was not a speed horse in the race. Why play games and be caught wide. Same with California Chrome. The only reason he went to the front the race prior was that there was no speed. On Saturday , i would be shocked if Baffs did not feel he is tons the best. Why kill your horsein the process. If someone is hell bent on the lead. Give it to them, when the heat gets to much for the other horse. Then you turn it up even more. · 82 days ago ·
