What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Imbongi...

Somewhat surprisingly, the posts were drawn for the four thoroughbred races preceeding the top Group 1 races, which will be fully drawn on Wednesday afternoon in a function at Meydan.  The odds quoted below are DubaiRaceNight.com’s projected morning, or opening, line based on our analysis of th...Read More
  • medlocke · Tough draw for Godolphin's Skysurfers in the Godolphin Mile. He looked incredible when he beat Musir in the Firebreak Stakes and set a Meydan track record for a mile on tapeta in that race. I put him up as the most likely winner of this year's Godolphin Mile that day. But with this extremely wide P.P draw, it could certainly make thing's very difficult for Skysurfers. I'd have to say given his previous start at Meydan, and the good P.P. draw he has, keep a close eye on Conveyance in this race. JMO. · 1123 days ago ·
Twelve evenly-matched colts and geldings are set to face the starter in the $250,000 UAE 2000 Guineas Sponsored by Dubal (UAE-III). The one-mile contest is one of two stakes that will be run on Feb. 10 over the Tapeta all-weather surface at Meydan Racecourse.Mike de Kock will send out Zanzamar for o...Read More
  • medlocke · Buffum ran a fantastic UAE 2000 Guineas. He charged to the lead under Frankie Dettori and looked for a minute like he might win the race. But Buffum faded in final 100yds., and was overtaken by a blanket of four horses that included the UAE 2000 Guineas Trial 1st and 2nd place horses, Zanzamar and Splash Point. But this time, Splash Point won the race. Also there was an outstanding European colt, Krypton Factor, and 2000 Guineas Trial 3rd, Bridgetown. But this was a very encouraging run from Buffum. Wouldn't be surprised to see him able to improve upon his UAE 2000 Guineas 5th in the upcoming UAE Derby. · 1152 days ago ·
Splash Point turned the tables on rival Zanzamar as he charged from well off the pace to win the $250,000 UAE 2000 Guineas Sponsored by Dubal (UAE-III) at Meydan Racecourse Feb. 10. The eight-furlong contest was the second of two stakes that highlighted the fifth night of the 2011 Dubai Carnival.The...Read More

  • Rossington · This being the second season that the new Meydan facility has been in existence in Dubai. And the main track now Tapeta, and no longer conventional dirt as was the case at the old Nad Al Sheba facility. I've not seen a horse dominate a surface like Mendip has done on the Tapeta main track at Meydan. He just eats that surface up. At the 2010 Carnival, he made the 09' Breeders Cup Juvenile winner, and his stablemate, Vale of York look like a maiden colt. Mendip really thrives at Meydan. I also believe that Godolphin doesn't have a better representative to send to this year's Dubai World Cup than Mendip. He will be a load for Gitano Hernando, Gio Ponti, Snow Fairy, Wigmore Hall, or any of the other "big name" horses headed to Dubai for the DWC. Godolphin's Allybar really thrived on the Tapeta at Meydan in 2010. Winning the Al Maktoum Challenge Rd.2, 3rd in the Al Maktoum Challenge Rd.3, and 3rd in that now famous 3-way photo on the wire between Allybar, Lizard's Desire, and Gloria De Campeao that decided the DWC winner. That said, I'd rate Mendip as a better horse on the Tapeta than Allybar. The great thing about Mendip potentially racing in the DWC is that you'll get him at a price with more established G1 winners in the race. And I'll take whatever long odds they want to give me on Mendip all day long. Because I believe he'll be right their with the best of them at the wire. JMO. · 1189 days ago ·

It's breakfast at Wimbledon for racing fans....I'd call it the Duel in the Desert, but there's really no big duel being touted on the Sheikh's biggest race day of the year. After finishing 2nd in a photo that was so close, it looked like it could have potentially been declared a dead heat, to Bankable, on February 19, 2010 in the Al Fahidi Fort, the 6yr.old South African colt Imbongi, used a very quick turn of foot to come through up the rail and hang on by a long head to win the Zabeel Mile at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai on March 5, 2010. The Irish colt Kalahari Gold got up for place, and Ireland's Summit Surge was the show horse.
