Older Comments about Igugu...

loved her. she used to be soooo good.
Igugu has officially been retired and is booked to be covered on 2014 NH time by Dansili
8th and last in the fillies' and mares' stakes, I don't think she will ever get back to her South African form, or maybe she just isn't quite as good as some of the other horses she has faced in 2013. I can't see her staying in training after this
Mike De Kock should be encourged by Igugu's effort in the Rosemary Stakes at Newmarket today, IMO. Beaten only 3/4 lengths by the Richard Hannon trained Zurigha over a trip far too short for her at a mile and coming off a 5 month layoff. I think Igugu needs a minumum of 10f to be seen at her best and maybe even further as she won the G1 Durban July Handicap over 11f and the G1 South African Oaks over 12f. In large part, I think that's why she didn't really shine in Dubai because she was racing over a trip too short for her in the Balanchine, Jebel-Hatta, & Duty Free all at 9f. JMO.
Mike De Kock's talented mare who's won virtually every major G1 race there is to win in South Africa but has since struggled to find the winner's circle in Dubai & Hong Kong makes her European debut on Friday in the listed Rosemary Stakes at Newmarket. Igugu hasn't raced since shipping to Hong Kong back in April to run in the G1 Audemars Piguet QE II Cup, so I like the angle of dropping down in class to listed level first time out off the layoff. My biggest concern is the distance only being a mile after seeing her run at 9f multiple times in Dubai. Can't help but wonder if a mile might not be a bit too sharp for Igugu? But far be it from me to second guess Mike De Kock because he's one of the most talented and underrated trainers in the world and he doesn't make a habit out of sending out his horses if they're not fit and ready to run.
just hasn't been the same since coming out of quarantine.
I don't think she likes the turf at meydan,i hope mike enters her in the Singapore airlines international cup
entered in the Jebel Hatta this weekend, she will have a rematch with Sajjhaa.
Galileo really know how to make them. Any one know if he have any successful off spring that run on dirt? His pedigree has many dirt runner. · 11 days ago ·

Very interesting AnnaK
she may have lost but she is way better than guys you will see
I have a hunch this mare is gonna rack up some serious $$$ in Dubai, starting with the G2 Balanchine. For anyone who's never seen Igugu race before you're in for a real treat. This mare is a monster and has no problem whatsoever running with the best of the boys. With Frankel now retired and gone off to stud, I personally think Igugu is now the most talented son or daughter sired by Galileo actively racing.
has to be Galileo's greatest daughter. i hope she will be in the Dubai World Cup. great filly.!
Returns to the Races in the Balanchine stakes at Meydan. Best of luck to the Brilliant Igugu as she preps for the Dubai World Cup(My DWC PICK). Her first race back in a year. Best of luck to the Super Mare.
this is Mike De kocks best chance to win the Dubai world cup

I just read an article on EmiratesRacing.Com that said Igugu is doing really well in Dubai and will be coming out of quarantine very soon where she's being housed at Meydan International Stables. Can't wait to see this filly race at the carnival this year!! My hunch is that Mike De Kock will likely try Igugu in 1 of the 3 rounds of the Al Maktoum Challenge to see how she handles the tapeta main track? I think how she runs in that race will probably determine if she runs in the G1 Dubai World Cup or the G1 Sheema Classic on the world cup night card?
GIRL POWER!Great filly!
This filly is right out of the top drawer!! Another great champion sired by the mighty Galileo!! She's really been ultra-impressive taking both the G1 Durban July and the G1 J&B Met for Mike De Kock!! I wonder if De Kock might not now consider sending this filly to Dubai in March to strengthen his hand in the G1 Sheema Classic? Which as near as I can tell, he's the weakest in as far as his entries right now of any of the other top G1 races on world cup night. He's strong in the Dubai World Cup with Bold Silvano and Master of Hounds. Strong in the Duty Free with Musir and River Jetez. But as near as I can tell, he basically had Irish Flame and Mahbooba to point at the Sheema Classic. Irish Flame may have run well in South Africa, but he was far less than stellar in all of his races at Meydan a year ago, and I think the Cape Verdi showed us that Mahbooba would be vulnerable to other top 12f turf horses in the Sheema Classic. This filly could level the playing field for Mike De Kock and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum in a heartbeat. JMO.

  • ILuvTurfRacing · @cocoa2, Amen to that, my friend!! Best sire standing anywhere in the world right now, bar none!! What his offspring have accomplished speaks for him as a sire, and I'm not only talking Frankel's exploits, either. He's producing top-class, G1 winners, both male and female, all over the world!! · 1886 days ago
  • cocoa2 · Coolmore has got in down in Ireland. Now if we can find a mare that does well with dirt and Gally they we'll be great, · 1886 days ago
Hope Igugu runs in the Durban July 2012, she is one of a kind filly. All the best for the J & B met
By champion sire Galileo, Igugu is the second foal of Zarinia (IRE), an Intikhab mare from the family of champion mare and Arc winner Zarkava.
