What the Nation is saying about Icon Project...

It may have taken a few years, but the Delaware Handicap was finally given back the title it so richly deserved. Read More

Voting for the 2009 older female category has been revised to reverse an error made by a voter who mistakenly voted for Icon Project instead of Zenyatta.Read More
I still feel really bad that Icon Project had to be retired. She had shown so much promise in 09. I would have loved to have seen her in the B.C. Ladies Classic this year. Not many people know this, but Icon Project, in 2008 was 2nd to Dar Re Mi in a race in Great Britian, which was the race that Dar Re Mi broke her maiden in. Dar Re Mi is certainly one of the world's best fillies. Icon Project finishing a close 2nd to her should have been a clue of thing's to come from her.
  • arazi · I'm glad you said that. Icon Project was one of the most exciting horses of 2009, outside of Rachel and Zenyatta, that is. But because she only ran a couple of big races, she will largely be forgotten in no time. I believe she also had one of the top Beyer figs of the year. Very interesting about her and Dar Re Mi. · 1565 days ago ·

  • rossington · I agree Cigar, a very talented filly. I don't think we'd even seen her best yet. Taking Rachael Alexandra and Zenyatta out of the equation, it would be tough to call between Icon Project and Careless Jewel which one had looked the most impressive in victory this year. Both drawing off and leaving fields by 12 or 13 lengths. I remember one field that Icon Project completely ran away from had both Unbridled Belle and Swift Temper in the race, both pretty good fillies in their own right. · 1638 days ago ·

  • horses · Icon Project ran a couple of the most impressive races of the year, outside of Rachel. It would have been awesome to see her match up against Zenyatta and Careless Jewel. Just imagine if Zenyatta goes in the Classic... then Careless Jewel is the favorite and could have an easy go of it. Couldn't have been a much easier spot for Rachel to jump in... · 1638 days ago ·

This year's Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic (G1) is shaping up to be a repeat of 2008, with most of the same cast and crew re-opposing reigning champion ZENYATTA (Street Cry [Ire]). One really interesting contender has been retired, and another major player is now only 50-50 for the 1 1/8-mile event.Read More

  • ruby · Agree that Icon Project is a monster... and if she doesn't bounce in the Spinster and comes into the Ladies Classic on a roll... then the race goes through her, not Zenyatta. · 1660 days ago ·

  • medlocke · Icon Project is definitely one of the "now" fillies. Still, though, I think she'll have to bring her very best "A" game to beat Zenyatta. If Zenyatta runs against the girls and not the guys. Say what you will, the big "Zen" just has a nose for the wire and knows how to find it. Another filly I'm interested in seeing again, despite a long layoff, is Stardom Bound. I don't see her beating Icon Project or Zenyatta but I wouldn't be surprised if she were to hit the board in the Ladies Classic. · 1659 days ago ·

With three furlongs left to run in the $400,000 Personal Ensign Stakes (G1) on Saturday at Saratoga Race Course, the question in trainer Marty Wolfson’s mind was not if Icon Project would win, but by how many lengths. • GBeret · I'm just curious if Rachael Alexandra's connections, given Unbridled Belle's success at Delaware Park and having won the Delaware Handicap before, plus the 1/1-4 mile distance of the race decided on entering her in the Haskell Invitational because of it being 1/1-8? Maybe they feel like she can beat the colts easier at 1/1-8 than she could beat Unbridled Belle at Delaware Park at 1/1-4. · 1736 days ago ·

  • cigar · I think Monmouth fits into her style way more than the Del. Cap, plus I'm not sure R.A. is going to be quite as effective going 10 furlongs. If the Preakness was another 16th of a mile longer, it's a totally different landscape right now. · 1735 days ago ·
