  • travel_vic · to continue to run him would only blemish the record he actually ran to. · 1794 days ago
  • mjtags11 · That is sad. He has some talent, just never could show it. Then again, he is getting old and does not have a lot of time to release his talent. Hopefully he has a great retirement. · 1794 days ago
Does anyone know if Ice Box will retire or not? I know he was supposed to but so far no news. Hope he stays active, has some talent, love this horse. Had an impressive run (compared to other races of his) in the BCC.
  • MichaelPavelick · Did a google search and found no current news on Ice Box. No recent workouts either. · 1799 days ago
  • Cardly Knot · I think there was word of the BCClassic being Ice Box's last race. · 1799 days ago
“He had a chip taken out of a knee,” Zito said. “We gave him a lot of time. He’s doing good right now. He’s doing super.”

He is my early pick for the Breeders Cup Classic.

  • mjtags11 · In one way I congratulate Mike Smith and Drosselmayer, but on the other hand, I wonder why the stewards did not call interference on him for moving in front of Ice Box. Well, 6-1 (KD, Preak, Bel, Hask, Trav, and JCGC) on stakes races is good for my first year of handicapping. Can't wait till next year. · 1855 days ago
  • MichaelPavelick · 2 1/2 lengths difference between 2nd place and 8th place. He really wasn't that far out of the money. His odds (30-10 were NO where near what would have justified a wager on him. I thought he would be around a 100-1 · 1854 days ago
why is ice box going to the classic? He has been terrible this year. He had two good races LAST year and has been awful ever since.

  • MichaelPavelick · Mary, I log in with my Facebook account. It then keeps me logged in. Its possible the Saratoga main track and training track was/are slow. But I now understand your point with the six furlong time. Only time will tell if Zito trains Ice Box at Churchill. · 1862 days ago
  • icyhotboo · @DeadHeat Anything can and does happen in races, how it plays out on paper is usually not the way it's run. I personally use a multiple betting stategy to at least break even on a race I have a large investment in. Of course there are exceptions to all the rules. · 1861 days ago
rootin for ya in the breeders cup!
Not sure why Zito insists on racing Ice Box with the top horses. Ice Box,I think has seen his better days.
Ice Box is back today at the Spa! hasn't won since the Fla Derby last year!! lets route for this one!!!
I wonder what problems this horse has been having since the Belmont. Anybody have a clue where he's going to next.

  • bigbrown2332 · The only thing about the Pulpits is that there a little hot. Thats the only issue I have with them, I tend to like the Pulpits. · 2157 days ago
  • icyhotboo · bigbrown2332 that is exactly my issue. I couldn't figure it until until Nick Zito said it after one of the races · 2156 days ago
Zito Should Ride Alex Solis and let this horse run........
  • mrsmaryzinke · Maybe the switch to grass will help Ice Box. This 1 1/8m. colt has great breeding. · 2255 days ago
  • humphrey · This horse runs the way HE runs. These are not cars. · 2255 days ago
The Belmont Stakes was not very good this year because classy 3 year olds who closed from the back of the pack, had a mile and a half to do it, and had good credentials, were at the back of the pack, yet tired, like this horse.....
  • arazi · They were all average. But the pace is what did in Ice Box. In the Florida Derby and Derby, they hit the half mile in 46 2/5 and 46 seconds. In the Belmont, it was 49 seconds for the half. That means there were no tired horses for Ice Box to run past. People are often fooled that closers are 'faster' than the others in the stretch. The reality is, they are actually decelerating less dramatically. Today, nobody was decelerating much and Ice Box remained in 9th place. · 2372 days ago
  • cigar · Average group to say the least. · 2372 days ago
Were the deep running closers actually tiring in the Belmont? This race was a mile and a half, which is plenty of time for off-the-pace horses and Ice Box was at the back of the pack like he usually is, and tired!!!! The 2010 Belmont Stakes seemed like a race where pacesetters and pressers had more in the tank than the closers because of horses like this one.....
I sure am excited to watch a group of low level grade 3 caliber and mid level allowance caliber horses race in a prestigious race like the belmont. The only horse who belongs is Ice Box and its hard to tell if he is really that great. He won the Florida derby decently, but i never judge a horse based on a "good loss". He looked game in the derby but a loss is a loss. Especially when you have a near perfect trip and you are a closer.
  • curlin · Moral of my story: Worst class of 3 year olds I have ever seen. One good horse (LAL) and one great retired horse. · 2375 days ago
  • humphrey · It is the distance that is becoming the anacromism.....If you were to look back as recently as the 70's there were marathons listed galore. Stop offering graded stakes at marathon distances and you will soon find NO horses capable of going that route. · 2375 days ago
I think Ice Box will win the Belmont Stakes. He has everything going for right now so that colt has a good chance of winning.
Ice Box's trip in the Derby was ridiculaouos. I went back and watched the tape a handful of times and he had to check no less than 3 times on during the stretch run and still would have won if the race was any longer. No discredit to Super Saver, but Ice Box was clearly the best horse on that day, but Super Saver got the best trip.

  • horses · Yeah, it goes down as one of the worst trips in Derby history. With this pace, you run this race ten times and Ice Box wins most of them. · 2406 days ago
  • humphrey · Big closers ALWAYS have these excuses as they pass the leader right about 40 feet PAST the finish line, that is EXCEPT Zenyatta and that alone makes her unique. · 2406 days ago
He has the running style which can win the Derby if the pace heats-up too much.
