Already changed my long-shot picks after a few more hours of study - I like Cozzetti as the sleeper pick but think Isn't He Clever will be tough with his stalking style. Good luck all!

Neither did I, but maybe his pair of second place finishes in the Cigar Mile and the Suburban Handicap should have been a clue. I sure won't underestimate him again.

Was a great race, and I'm glad I was able to pick the winner. Looking back on place and show, this trifecta should have been within even a moderate handicapper's grasp. I really need to learn to read PPs without the bias of name recognition

It's easy to read the form after the race is run. I read it before the race and knew MI was going to get the garden spot and tossed him as he was to slow in my opinion which was obviously wrong. That's why it's so important, at least for me to see the horses just before the race. Many of these are so close in ability that it comes down to who feels the best on race day. I had the #10 but I also burned a lot of money trying to catch the ex, tri, super, and furthemore I didn't think the #10 was going to get there in time.

I was looking fora better performance from others in the race. Hymn Book is a nice horse. Handicapping the race, I felt others were positioned better to win. He was a complete surprise to me

That was a big run 5 wide on the final turn and being bumped hard in the stretch. In hindsight I should have used MI as I needed a stalker to go with my front and closer.

Oaklawn Handicap Possible for Hymn Book
Hymn Book’s emergence as a star in the handicap division can be credited to a surface switch from turf to dirt, but the 6-year-old gelding would never have had a chance to win Saturday’s $500,000 Donn Handicap (G1) at Gulfstream Park without one very important event early in his career.

If it rains, Ruler On Ice is strictly the one to beat. Beyond that possibility, well, I'm still scratching my head. I'm thinking either Redeemed or Mission Impazible.

Gulfstream has been running early on the main just abou the while meeting. Any horses not closer than about 4 lengths at the 6 furlong call in routes, have not done well.....When it is wet that is even more a factor

Hymn Book
The HYMN BOOK will be wide open on Saturday afternoon in South Florida and I expect the rest of the field to 'get religion' with his performance. His only poor finish (6th) was on the grass in the Bernard Baruch last summer. J...ohnny V is on him. I'm not a big Shug fan but I do like this horse (@ 8:1 in the ML) in his current form, in this spot.

This is going to be great race! Looks like rain is in the forecast for the next couple of days which should add a nice element to handicapping this one. If Shackleford isn't pressed for the pace, it would be great to see him win. I think he misses the winner's circle

I really don't like horses that race after the classic....especially in the Cigar Mile. Congaree was an exception because he was an exceptional animal. There are no Congarees in this field (ironically enough his son is though). To Honor and Serve is the most talented and he loves the track...but him and Haynesfield will probably go hard at each other on the front end and set it up for a closer. CAIXA always runs a credible race anywhere from 6F to 9F. This is probably his optimal distance so I look for him to win it!distance
