What the Nation is saying about Hurricane Ike...

The top three finishers from the 2010 edition of the Grade 3 Aristides Stakes -- Riley Tucker, Atta Boy Roy and Cash Refund -- are back for Saturday's $100,000 renewal at Churchill Downs, but this year's running of the six-furlong dash has arguably attracted a much deeper field. Sidelined at this ti...Read More

  • humphrey · EXPERIENCE, and the lessons of having run in a REAL race, not some isolated quiet morning trails with no dirt in their faces, counts for a lot in the baby learning curve. Not some theoretical heterogeneous stats...Think of it: INDIVIDUALS (the horses) have their own specific talents and aptitudes, YET these silly stats lump all of them together UNDER THE TRAINER ( an individual who never runs in a race)...... My goodness. Taleb Nassim and Leonard Mlodinow have it pegged when it comes to gleaned cause and effect as a quantum leap to simple correlation. · 502 days ago ·

In an electrifying display of speed, Discreetly Mine roared through an opening quarter-mile in 21.90 seconds and a half in 44.11 on his way to a 1 ¼-length victory in the 26th running of the Grade 1, $250,000 King’s Bishop on Saturday afternoon at Saratoga Race Course.   With trainer Todd Pletc...Read More
D’ Funnybone and Discreetly Mine have met twice, and twice D’ Funnybone has emerged victorious. Yet despite those victories – in the Grade 2 Futurity last fall at Belmont Park and the Grade 2 Woody Stephens in June at the same track – horse racing often is a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately game. &...Read More

  • swale · I agree with you. I was looking at him taking over on the backstretch from a slow pace and trying to take it all the way in from there. I was going to use him in my exacta box with Super Saver and Paddy O'Prado. · 638 days ago ·

  • curlin · I don't care who wins as long as it is either super saver, lookin at lucky, conveyance, jackson bend, or dublin. i know this sounds wierd but i hate when crappy horses win prestigious races. i don't want a horse who has raced 8 or so times and has won twice. actually it doesn't have to be a great horse but if it isn't i want it to have a good pedigree or to be trained buy a top trainer. i hate when crappy horses like mine that bird trained by a no body of a trainer chip woolly comes and win a race that should be won by a trainer who races at a real track. and by a real track i mean: if it isn't in Kentucky, Florida, new york, Illinois, California, and i guess Arkansas (oaklawn) or Louisiana (fairgrounds ) your not racing at a real track. · 640 days ago ·

What a difference a nose makes. When Schoolyard Dreams lost the Tampa Bay Derby to Odysseus by the slimmest of margins on March 13, it changed the entire spring plan for the slightly made 3-year-old colt. It may have changed the complexion of the Triple Crown as well. Had Schoolyard Dreams won the T...Read More
