  • cigar · If you go back and watch Winslow Homer's first three races he shows definitive improvement both in terms of overall ability, push-button speed and ratability. I expect him to run big in the Holy Bull. · 17 days ago
  • mdracing69 · Hope you're right about Winslow Homer, because he's my pick in the Holy Bull. · 17 days ago
Disappointment and hope run in tandem on the trail. Just minutes after word broke that Azeri's baby TAKE CONTROL was injured and off the Triple Crown trail, along came Barbaro's little brother LENTENOR to pull off a "wow" performance unmatched in the maiden ranks this season. Call me crazy, but LENT...Read More
Before I jump around the nation with news and notes, congrats to Rachel Alexandra for winning Horse of the Year honors over Zenyatta. She had the better overall season and deserved the nod. It is great that Zenyatta will race again this year, and we can only hope that the two fabulous ladies hook up...Read More
The field for Saturday’s highly-anticipated renewal of the $150,000 Holy Bull Stakes (G3) at Gulfstream Park continues to take shape with a field of seven to 10 3-year-olds expected. Robert LaPenta’s Jackson Bend will likely be favored in the one-turn, one-mile test. Gulfstream racing officials lis...Read More

Bob Baffert has already begun checking off items on his “Things to do” list for the 2010 Kentucky Derby trail by working Lookin At Lucky in blinkers, with the intention of adding them for the colt’s first start. As consistent a winner as Lookin at Lucky has been, it seems he’s even better with the b...Read More
South Florida has been a winter haven for Kentucky Derby hopefuls for decades. This is not some nostalgic bent. Three of the last four Derby winners, and four of the last seven, have made Florida their winter home, so it's little wonder that racing fans are already asking about which Florida 3-year-...Read More
The 2010 Gulfstream Park meeting opens Sunday and everywhere you look there will be something new. New faces, new wrinkles, a new mall, and before the meet ends, perhaps even a new owner.Read More
My first Kentucky Derby top ten post appeared here on Nov. 15th. A few prep races have been run since, so here is my updated list. Two horses have dropped from the original list, including Homeboykris. The Rick Dutrow trainee was a disappointing 5th in the Remsen on Nov 28th. Thiskyhasnolimit, 6th i...Read More

Buddy's Saint stamped himself as a legitimate contender for next year's Kentucky Derby with a stylish-looking 4 3/4-length victory in Saturday's Grade 2, $200,000 Remsen Stakes at Aqueduct. Peppi Knows rallied to be second, 2 1/4 lengths ahead of Citrus Kid. He was followed in the order of finish by...Read More
On the last Saturday of November at Aqueduct, Homeboykris and Buddy's Saint hope to fuel their connections' dreams of being able to compete on the first Saturday in May at Churchill Downs.Read More
Now that the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile is in the books, it is time to take an early look at the 2010 Kentucky Derby hopefuls. In compiling this early list, I looked for proven graded class and strong breeding, but I also wanted to use promising, lightly raced sorts on the way up....Read More
There is so much to discuss after the weekend's stakes extravaganza, but one race that likely had the most profound effect on the Breeders' Cup was the Goodwood Stakes (gr. I).Read More
  • Rossington · I say now or never for Zenyatta. If she had been entered in the Goodwood Stakes, Gitano Hernando or not, she could have won that race. There really wasn't much there to beat, imo. MTB who hasn't won a race since the Ky. Derby, Colonel John who runs well on the surface but is a bit overmatched in the Classic, Informed and Parading, whom neither have ran to par for some time now. So with Sea the Stars now retired, I say let Zenyatta run against the boys. Quality Road or Summer Bird are neither proven on the surface. Of the American entries, only Einstein may give her trouble. So let her run, so what if she finished 3rd to Rip Van Winkle and Midshipman. No shame in that. · 118 days ago
Trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. could again be headed for an exciting classics season in the wake of Saturday’s Grade I Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park. The trainer of Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown nailed down the historic Champagne Stakes with Homeboykris as the favored Dublin, winner of Saratoga’s Ho...Read More
Dublin overcame some trouble and a bit of immaturity to win last month's Grade 1 Hopeful at Saratoga. But the horse he beat by two lengths, Aspire, didn't have the smoothest of trips either and figures to offer more value when the two meet again in Saturday's Grade 1 Champagne at Belmont Park.Read More
