What the Nation is saying about Hold Me Back...

Grade 2 winner Hold Me Back has been retired and will stand for owner and co-breeder WinStar Farm in Versailles, Kentucky, for the 2011 season. “Unfortunately, a strained tendon has compromised Hold Me Back’s chances of recapturing the brilliance he showed us during his 2009 campaign,” WinStar Racin...Read More
New York-bred Haynesfield parlayed his fondness for Belmont Park into a major upset Saturday afternoon, going wire-to-wire to snap Blame’s five-race winning streak with a four-length victory in the 92nd running of the Grade 1, $750,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup Invitational.   Sent right to the fro...Read More
  • railbird33 · This was as big a story as Z winning her 19th against four rivals. Also, seeing Lucky grind his way to a win in the slop shows he can handle an off-track. The BC races will have some nice betting angles and pay-outs!! · 488 days ago ·

Since it was first run in 1919, Belmont Park’s Grade 1, $750,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup Invitational has not only brought together history’s finest thoroughbreds but served as a major steppingstone to year-end honors for many.   Over the last decade alone, 2009 3-year-old champion Summer Bird, 20...Read More
Richard's Kid and jockey Mike Smith made it two straight victories in Del Mar's signature race of the summer season with a narrow but authoritative triumph in the 20th running of the Grade I $1 million Pacific Classic Presented by TVG Saturday.   Outrun in the early stages of the mile and one-q...Read More
Ten horses were entered to run in Saturday's 20th edition of the Grade I, $1,000,000 Pacific Classic -- Presented by TVG. • medlocke · I think The Usual Q.T. is the logical favorite for the Pacific Classic. But it's certainly not a lock by any means for him. He's going to have to do some real racing to win the Pacific Classic. Dakota Phone has really been racing well. Having won his last start at Del-Mar. Beating Battle of Hastings in the San Diego Handicap. Richard's Kid won the 2009 running of this race, and is also more than capable of winning it again in 2010. Although Awesome Gem ran a stormer of a race to beat Rail Trip in the Hollywood Gold Cup. Most of his biggest racing successes prior to the Hollywood Gold Cup had come on conventional dirt. With the G2 Hawthorne Gold Cup having previously been Awesome Gem's biggest win. Del-Mar is also a very different surface than Hollywood Park. Much more difficult going over the track at Del-Mar, IMO. I think the biggest "live wire" in the race, if he run's to his ability? Is the recent raider from Great Britain, Crowded House. This colt possesses a tremendous turn of foot. He's been raced primarily on turf in the UK. But ran a couple of outstanding efforts on the Tapeta surface at Meydan during the Dubai racing carnival. If he likes the surface at Del-Mar as well as he did the Tapeta at Meydan? Crowded House's turn of foot could absolutely propel him to a victory in the Pacific Classic. IMO. · 526 days ago ·

Though the race still is two weeks away, the $1-million Pacific Classic Presented by TVG is already shaping up as a potentially large field.   At least 12 early prospects are already on board tentatively, led by defending champion Richard's Kid and Hollywood Gold Cup winner Awesome Gem, who wi...Read More
When it comes to analyzing the Queen's Plate, handicappers go back and forth trying to sort out if the pace scenario will better benefit a front-runner, a stalker or a closer. In Sunday's Gallop For The Guineas, Sam-Son Farms conditioner Mark Frostad has effectively tapped the "ALL" button with his ...Read More

Makes 4yo debut in Wednesday's third at Gulfstream.
Trainer Bill Mott has Hold Me Back entered in Wednesday third race allowance feature at Gulfstream Park going one mile in his first start since a disappointing sixth-place finish as the 4-to-5 favorite in the Kentucky Cup Classic (G2) at Turfway Park on Sept. 26 last fall after the Travers. THE INTRIGUE - The 140th running of the Travers didn’t feature Rachel Alexandra, who most believed at the time was the best 3YO of either sex, but the winners of the Belmont, Florida Derby, Lane’s End, Jim Dandy, Dwyer, Peter Pan, and Barbaro made up the field of seven.Read More
If Sea the Stars does not make the trip to California, which seems more likely than not, and joins Rachel Alexandra on the absentee list, it will create a void never before seen in the Breeders’ Cup. Read More

  • mshutty · And the BC organization has no one to blame but itself. Remember when we all had a collective moan when it was announced that the BC would be held at Santa Anita two consecutive years? Our disdain for this idea is justified. I agree wth mdracing...what do the connections of Rachel have to prove. The only risk to the HOY honors is running in the BC and getting beat. If you owned/trained Rachel, what would you do? · 850 days ago ·

Hold Me Back is done for the year after a lung infection was discovered following his disappointing effort in the Ky Cup Classic.
The chances of Sea the Stars being withdrawn from Sunday's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Fra-I) due to soft ground appear slim to none, as the weather forecast calls for little or no rain through next Tuesday.Read More
