  • Sully · First it's naysayers commenting on how Flashback was exposed by his respectable second place finish, now it's he was pushed too hard? Athletes get injured. It's just that simple, and if he ran his respectable second with the injury, I say shame on the naysayers. · 44 days ago ·

Do you remember the last time a horse won the Santa Anita Derby in his seasonal debut? No? I didn’t either. It just doesn’t seem like the kind of thing many horsemen would try to do. Then again, Bob Baffert is not your average, run of the mill thoroughbred horse trainer, and this rather unlikely fea...Read More

  • Trackside · I have nothing agaisnt Power Broker, but I think the Wood memorial would have been the better spot to run than the S.A. Derby. Sure, he would have to go up againnst Verrazano, but P.B. wouldn't have to deal with nearly the amount of other speed horses that he will in santa Aniat. Going 9 furlongs off a substantial layoff isnt easy for any horse, but doing it against what appears to be an unfavorable race setup is even harder. Nice colt, but this is really a tough spot for him to return. · 47 days ago ·

Very sad to see him hurt.
in San Felipe, Hear The Ghost carried 117 lbs and Flashback carried 122 lbs, and Flashback was beaten by 1/2 length, this time in S.A. Derby both carry 122 lbs, so Hear The Ghost giving Flashback 5 lbs advantage, but results of S.A. Derby will be different, Flashback has more advantage than Hear The Ghost?

Just announced... Hear The Ghost has scratched from the Santa Anita Derby!
On Saturday the two (2) Derby preps feature M/L favorites from the barn of two high profile trainers. Todd Pletcher sends out prohibitive Verrazano in the Wood Memorial while Bob Baftert saddles Flashback (9-5), as well as Power Broker and Super Ninety Nine. But will someone else steal the show? I'm keeping an eye on Hear the Ghost. His rallying win in the San Felipe was impressive, being his first route. But I need to see him closer to the leader at the stretch call of the SA Derby. The last Ky Derby winner whose last prep found him 3rd or worse at the stretch call or more than two lengths behind the leader at the stretch call was Ferdinand in 1986.
