larooski · No he did not get robbed. He couldn't even make the Derby field (God knows they tried). What did he do in the Arkansas Derby, KY Derby, Preakness, Belmont, Haskell, Travers or BC Classic? That's where the real 3yo and BC racing is at. · 56 days ago ·

larooski · strong the whole year? Your not fooling me. The Ky Derby and Prioress are both Grade 1. Does that make them equal? All Grade 1's are not equal. If he was really that good he would have been in the Classic and Derby and all those other races he wasn't good enough for. AK won the $500K Spiral, KY Derby was a good 2nd in the Preakness and ran huge in the Belmont while injured. CP couldn't even muster up enough graded earnings to get into the Derby dispite running in the Southwest, Rebel and Arkansas Derby. CP barely beat Uncle Mo off a huge layoff, but if he was the real deal he would have been in the Travers instead. The Dirt Mile and Classic are both G1 but they aren't equal. footlick · timgsmith10 is right. We had Caleb's Posse who was the most consistent animal in his element, which was around 1 turn. The only other two would be Animal Kingdom who won the Derby and finished second in the Preakness, and Stay Thirsty who won at Aqueduct and Saratoga. Out of the three, I would have voted for Caleb's Posse. Xtra Heat already set the precedent when she was voted top 3 yr old filly of her year and she was a sprinter. The top 3 yr old does not necessarily need to be a Classic winner or a distance horse. · 56 days ago ·

larooski · My point was that all G1's aren't equal. If you want your 3yo champ to be a horse that lost the Southwest, Rebel, Arkansas Derby and Indiana Derby go ahead. If you want you 3yo champ to be a 1-turn specialist with distance limits, fine. If you want your 3yo champ to be a 3yo that didn't run in the Derby, Preakness, Belmont, Haskell, Travers or BC Classic go right ahead. You and I both know those are the major races for 3yos. Races CP didn't even run in because he had no chance. We all know the big dogs run in the Travers and not the Kings Bishop. They run in the Classic not the Dirt Mile because those races are better. Who gives a crap about the winner of the Dirt Mile? Why do you think horse like Uncle Mo and Hard Spun wanted the Classic instead of the Dirt Mile? Even though they were more suited for the DM? But if that's the type of 3yo champ you want, fine go right ahead. I'm just glad he didn't get the Eclipse. · 55 days ago ·

footlick · Animal Kingdom won the Derby. Shackelford won the Preakness. Ruler on Ice won the Belmont. Stay Thirsty won the Travers. None of them beat older horses. Which of these brilliant horses deserve to be Three year old Champ? Just because a horse wins the Derby does not mean he deserved the title. I'm sorry you don't appreciate Caleb's Posse. I don't think he is a great horse, but I thought he had a better season than any of the others. But that is why we all have opinions. · 55 days ago ·
