What the Nation is saying about Great Heavens...

JAPANESE raider Orfevre will become the first horse since Dalakhani in 2003 to defy a double-figure draw in the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe if he is successful on Sunday. Read More

The latest that's developing in regards to the Arc De Triomphe on Sunday is that since Nathaniel has now fallen by the wayside, John Gosden and Lady Rothschild are strongly considering supplementing their Irish Oaks winning filly, Great Heavens, into the Arc field in Nathaniel's stead. We'll no for sure on Thursday, because that's the deadline for all horses who have to be supplemented to get into the race. Prix Du Jockey Club and Prix Niel winner, Saonois, is expected to be supplemented into the Arc field on Thursday also.

The G1 Irish Oaks winner will miss the G1 Prix Vermeille at Longchamp on Sunday. In a brief statement, trainer John Gosden said simply that her blood work did not come back normal, so she'll go for the G2 British Champions F&M Stakes at Ascot on Champions Day instead.
Though the G2 Lancashire Oaks and G1 Irish Oaks winner does still have an entry into the G1 English St. Leger as of right now, her trainer John Gosden has said he'll likely send Great Heavens to Longchamp instead for the G1 Prix Vermeille and go with 2 of his 3yr.old colts, Thought Worthy and Michelangelo in the English St. Leger.

  • ILuvTurfRacing · @footlick, I usually jump around every day all over the different European racing web-sites, and as of right now, I've only heard John Gosden say that she's more likely for the Prix Vermeille at Longchamp than she is for the English St. Leger at Doncaster. Whether or not Great Heavens runs in the Arc this year may depend on how well she does in the Prix Vermeille? JMO. · 256 days ago ·

  • ILuvTurfRacing · I agree Brian. Don't believe he's ever going to be as talented as big brother. But it's hard to knock a horse who's run in 2 maiden stakes and 4 listed or group stakes now, and has yet to finish worse than 2nd in any of them. He's definitely a fighter. · 291 days ago ·

John Gosden's got himself a top class 3yr.old filly in Great Heavens. Sired by the mighty Galileo himself. Back on July 7th, she ran off from the G2 Lancashire Oaks field at Haydock by 5 lengths, and today she looked much the best at the Curragh in Ireland, winning the G1 Irish Oaks by some 3 to 3+ lengths. Today's win in the G1 Irish Oaks runs Great Heavens career record to 5-4-0-0. Her only career defeat came in the very first start of her career where she finished 5th in a maiden fillies' stakes at Haydock. But since that loss, she's broken her maiden at Yarmouth, won the listed Ballymacoll Stud Stakes at Newbury, the G2 Lancashire Oaks at Haydock, and now the G1 Irish Oaks at the Curragh. Wouldn't at surprise me to see John Gosden show up at Santa Anita with this filly come November looking to add the G1 BC F&M Turf to her resume'.
