  • Sullivan · San Gabriel Valley Tribune - Trainer Richard Mandella said the long-range goal for the daughter of Henny Hughes is the $1 million Grade I Ogden Phipps on Belmont Stakes day on June 7. “We’ll do something (race-wise) with her before that,” Mandella said. “But we’ll let her tell us when she’s ready.” · 21 days ago ·
Santa Anita Derby and Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Goldencents worked four furlongs for Doug O’Neill in 47.60, breezing. “He was absolutely cruising,” O’Neill said. “I couldn’t be happier. He’s back on his game and closer to his return, but there’s no rush. We’ll let him tell us when he’s ready. The clocker who gave him ‘breezing’ knew what he was looking at.”

Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Goldencents has been back with Doug O’Neill “about two weeks” after some R&R. “We just tack-walked him for about a week and he’s been jogging for about a week. He’s probably a good three weeks away from a breeze,” the trainer said.

Leandro Mora, assistant to Doug O’Neill, said that Goldencents came out of the Cigar Mile fine, but may get some time off. “So far, so good,” said Mora, “but we’ll bring him back here and evaluate him.” Private Zone, also trained by O’Neill, was a strong second in the Cigar and also came back well.
Was never super impressed by Goldencents
  • Ruffianlover · Hopefully he returns next year though and can repeat his BC mile effort as that was really his only race I was impressed by · 137 days ago ·

  • LennyGeorge · Hope track isn't deep...................... · 139 days ago ·
  • AndyScoggin · LennyGeorge--The tracks in NY usually are deep, far deeper than in CA. For Breeders' Cup the track at Santa Anita had almost no depth. If Goldencents can win in NY it will be a big feather in his cap. · 138 days ago ·
Going to take my main man, Goldencents (like I did in the BC Mile) in this one. Goldencents won the BC Mile by about 3 lengths and has had three consecutive performances of 102 BRIS or higher. I am hoping Groupie Doll and the overrated Verrazano find a way to take away money so I get a modest price like I did in the BC Mile. Private Zone looks interesting and he is my second choice for the exacta. The trifecta will be completed by Groupie Doll or possibly Flat Out. In the Remsen, I am all over a straight wager with Honor Code. In the Cigar Mile. I might try some exotics through my key horse, Goldencents. Happy Thanksgiving to all. Talk to y'all later.

  • CauseForConcern · Oops!!! Sorry, goblin, I got this race mixed up with the Clark Handicap. I actually liked him coming up to the Derby. Figured that he didn't take to the off going. His run in the Haskell made me believe he was on the upswing, but his showing in the Travers diminished any hope I had. His run in the BC Dirt Mile was just off the board, but if you look at his races that he's won(Wood Memorial, which had Vyjack and Normandy Invasion; Tampa Bay Derby; Pegasus Stakes), he never really faced anybody. I once was high on a horse that was in a TC trail named Lost Mountain. I made every excuse for him, and he'd follow it up with another troubled trip(or excuse). I finally tired of him, and somewhere down the road, he fired in a race at something like 45-1. If only I could have stuck it out. Maybe the same can be said of VZ. Good luck to you, goblin. · 139 days ago ·
  • goblin · That's okay, CFC, just couldn't see the reasoning. Good luck to you, too. · 139 days ago ·
One year ago, Groupie Doll won the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint before coming to Aqueduct Racetrack to face males for the first time in the Grade 1 Cigar Mile Handicap. After taking the lead in midstretch, Groupie Doll was tagged on the wire by Stay Thirsty, who got up to win by a nose.Read More
