What the Nation is saying about Gitano Hernando...

Juddmonte Farms’ jubilation following their one-two finish in Royal Ascot’s Group I Prince of Wales’s Stakes June 16 may also allow Ireland’s all-time leading trainer Dermot Weld the chance to saddle the first Grade I Arlington Million winner of his stellar international career.   That’s becau...Read More
I read a story a couple of days back on England's Racing Post web-site that stated Gitano Hernando is going to be sidelined for a while with a chin injury of some sort. His owner, Gary Barber, said that Gitano Hernando's next two intended targets were the Arlington Million in America and the Prix De l' Arc De Triomphe in France. Barber said Gitano Hernando's injury positively takes him out of consideration for the Arlington Million in August. He also said they're not sure as of yet if Gitano Hernando will be ready for the Arc in France in early October?
After a disappointing run in the 2010 Dubai World Cup. Or moreover, having been given a horrendous ride by Fallon in the race, Gitano Hernando is as of right now slated on attheraces.com to make his next start on June 16th in the 2010 Prince of Wale's Stakes at Ascot. Gitano Hernando has two previous lifetime start's on turf. One was an out of money finish, and the other he finished second to the colt South Easter, beaten only a nose, in the 2009 Goddard Dee Stakes at Chester. Synthetic tracks, IMO, are much more to Gitano Hernando's liking. Having never lost over any synthetic surface track he had raced over until his loss at Meydan in the D.W.C. He'll have some very stiff competition in the race. As the 09' Prince of Wale's Stakes winner Vision D'Etat is listed to start. As well as Twice Over, Allybar, and Presvis. Allybar and Presvis both race well on turf and synthetics, but both seem to prefer synthetic tracks like Gitano Hernando more. Twice Over has raced decent on synthetics, but will perform better back on the turf. As will Vision D'Etat, who I believe is one of the best older horses in the world over turf. TJMO.
  • humphrey · Fallon the felon just keeps getting away with it. Some of his Breeder's Cup rides would be found next to the definition of incompetent in the dictionary! · 133 days ago
Michael Dickinson’s interest in racing surfaces first took root in the mid-1970s when he spent two summers at Ballydoyle in Ireland, working with his mentor, the late Vincent O’Brien, the legendary Irish trainer. “He started the all-weather gallops,” Dickinson said of O’Brien. “Before that, everyone...Read More
Fallon, IMO, get's the award for the worst ride on all of the horses that ran in the 2010 Dubai World Cup. Allybar drew the rail. Gitano Hernando drew stall #2. Allybar managed to travel very smoothly throughout the race. But Fallon left Gitano Hernando pinned on the rail far longer than he could, or should have in the race. Watching the race replay, as I have several times, more than once in the race Fallon had an opportunity with Gitano Hernando to split Mastery, who was about 2 or 3 wide in the middle, and Allybar who was closer to the rail. Gitano Hernando was full of run, and if Fallon had just split Mastery and Allybar, and gotten him off of the rail into the clear, Gitano Hernando may have had a shot, although Gloria De Campeao and Lizard's Desire both ran huge races. But with Fallon waiting so long for racing room, staying pinned to the rail, once he did get into the clear it was far too late for Gitano Hernando to mount any kind of serious threat. TJMO.
  • humphrey · Fallon is like the little girl with the curl and one never knows who shows up. A real pin head. · 157 days ago
THE first Dubai World Cup at billion-dollar Meydan ended in a dramatic finish as last year's runner-up Gloria De Campeao (Pascal Bary/TJ Pereira) just held on in the tightest of three-way photos. Representing French trainer Pascal Bary, the six-year-old - a 16-1 chance with British bookmakers - took...Read More
  • medlocke · The photo between Gloria De Campeao and Lizard's Desire is so close, even after seeing it several times, I really don't know how they didn't come to the conclusion that the 2010 Dubai World Cup was a dead heat. Allybar was also right there in between GDP and LD, just missing by a whisker himself. Gio Ponti got up for fourth, but had to go very wide to do so. Just nosing out Mastery at the line in a very close finish for 4th and 5th. Gitano Hernando got boxed in on the rail and had a terrible trip. He looked full of run, but never really got to unwind it. By the time GH did get into the clear, it was far too late. The two biggest disappointments of the race, to me, were Twice Over and Vision D'Etat. Vision D'Etat, one of the best international stakes horses in the world, clearly did not adapt to the Tapeta synthetic surface and finished far back. It was VD first lifetime start off of the turf. · 159 days ago

  • Medlocke · Gio Ponti did get a real good Post Position draw for the 2010 Dubai World Cup. Drawing P.P. #4 out of 14. The last time I checked on attheraces.com a few hours ago, Vision D'Etat from P.P. #6 was the 4-1 favorite. Twice Over drew P.P.#11, and had initially been the favorite until he drew wide. Twice Over was second choice at 11-2. Gio Ponti and Gitano Hernando from P.P. #2 are both 6-1, all on the parimutuel. Mastery had been 6-1, but drew wide also getting P.P #12. He's now at 8-1 with Gloria De Campeao from P.P.#5. · 161 days ago

It's breakfast at Wimbledon for racing fans....I'd call it the Duel in the Desert, but there's really no big duel being touted on the Sheikh's biggest race day of the year. Saturday's $10 million Dubai World Cup field had a slight shake-up over the weekend when Take the Points, who won the Secretariat Stakes at Arlington Park and Jamaica Handicap at Belmont Park last summer and fall, was redirected to the $5 million Dubai Duty Free over about 1 1-8 miles on turf...Read More
With the 2010 Dubai World Cup rapidly approaching at Meydan on March 27th, the list of "who's who" from all over the world continues to expand for the race. They'll be plenty of big names with short odds like Vision D'Etat, Gio Ponti, Twice Over, Gloria De Campeao, and Mastery but to name a few. But if you're looking for a serious contender that might give you a little "bang for your buck" Gitano Hernando may be your horse. On Turf, he has one win, and two place efforts in four starts. But on synthetic track surfaces, Gitano Hernando has yet to taste defeat. With win three wins in Great Britain at Wolverhampton and Lingfield. He also played the spoiler at Santa Anita in the 2009 Goodwood Stakes. A prep for the 2009 Breeders Cup Classic. Making him 4 for 4 lifetime over synthetic track surfaces. With the main track at Meydan being the Tapeta surface, Gitano Hernando may be the most accomplished over synthetic surfaces that may go off at a price in the 2010 Dubai World Cup. IMO, he certainly wouldn't be a bad ATB bet in a field that's going to be loaded with great Turf stars from Europe and the United States.

  • Rossington · I've never seen Vision D'Etat race over any surface except turf in his racing career, so I really don't know what to expect out of him over the Tapeta surface at Meydan. I will say this, that other than a poor finish in the 09' Prix d' le Arc', he's been one of the most "clutch" racing for big money Group or Grade 1 horses in the world in 2009. With victories in the Prix Ganay, The Prince of Wales Stakes, and the Pacific Hong Kong Cup, beating a star-studded field that yielded Presvis, Collection, Ashalanda, and Eagle Mountain but to name a few. He also has one 2nd place finish to Spanish Moon in the 09' Prix Foy, and one 3rd place finish to Trincot and The Bogberry in the 09' Prix harcourt. If Vision D'Etat adapts and run's well over the Tapeta surface, Gio Ponti and Twice over, already proven stayers on synthetics, may be his only real challenges. But if he struggles on the surface, as did Prix Neil and Arc 3rd place finisher Cavalryman, than the race may become a wide open one. JMO. · 170 days ago
