What the Horse Racing Nation is talking about...

Michele MacDonald, writing for US-based Bloodhorse, spoke with Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford about the operation’s former American-based runners and their likely places at the 2010 Dubai International Racing Carnival. Summarizing the various runners, it appears as though Godolphin is pleas...Read More
A few days prior to the Breeders' Cup, I started to write something about how horses with prep races run on dirt had failed so abysmally over Pro-Ride at Santa Anita the year before. I was going to list all of the 2009 dirt-to-Pro-Ride horses, label them throwouts and advise the public that they wou...Read More
It was another brutal Breeders' Cup for New York-based horses. One year after winning just 1 of 14 Breeders' Cup races - Maram in the Juvenile Fillies Turf - the New York-based contingent drew a blank in last week's Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita. Tapitsfly, this year's Juvenile Fillies Turf winner, d...Read More
Although she was back in her barn at Hollywood Park after her historic Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) win, Zenyatta was the hot topic the morning of Nov. 8 among those gathered at Clocker's Corner at Santa Anita, one day after they witnessed history.Read More
SAEED BIN SUROOR has forecast that the red-hot Godolphin stable will leave Santa Anita celebrating Breeders' Cup success and nominated Sprint candidate Gayego as his best chance of a winner at Flat racing's world championships.Read More
Coolmore and trainer Aidan O'Brien took a chance by entering only Rip Van Winkle in the Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I), despite the colt's history of foot problems, and now they could wind up without a horse in the race if Rip's most recent setback proves serious enough to force his withdrawal.Read More
  • gardenesque1 · Rip Van Winkle has run through foot problems all year, but in a wide open BC Classic, I want nothing to do with a horse less than 100%. · 96 days ago

For the fans of Zenyatta, the possibility of a hot pace bodes well for the closing mare in Saturday’s $5 million Classic. With one confirmed speed horse and three possible pressers, the long run to the first turn and the excitement of the crowd, the pace could easily heat-up to a level where anywher...Read More

  • cigar · Colonel John would need a career best race and it might not be good enough, but an on-the-board finish at a big price? Maybe. As for Zenyatta, a friend of mine posted this on Facebook: Bob Baffert on Zenyatta taking on the boys in the Classic: "It's a big question mark but it’s going to be answered. It’s a championsip race and that’s what it’s all about. If she’s a true champion she’ll do. It if she’s a filly and mare champion she won’t." · 97 days ago
  • Rossington · My guess is with Regal Ransom and Quality Road on the front end it will be very quick fractions. This could set up the race perfectly for a late closer like Zenyatta or Gio Ponti. · 97 days ago
A few weeks in California, and look how well Mine That Bird and Chip Woolley are moving. Mine That Bird, the Kentucky Derby winner, has progressed since running sixth in the Goodwood Stakes last month, and completed his preparation for Saturday's $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic with a five-furlong ...Read More

The presence of classy Europeans Mastercraftsman and Sweet Hearth to the pre-entry field for the $1-million Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (gr. I) on Nov. 7 gives the runners from the powerful Godolphin stable the prospect of some tough competition.Read More
Well bread indeed, Cigar. My goodness what a pedigree this horse has. Top side: A.P. Indy, Seattle Slew,Secretariat, Bold Ruler, Buckpasser. On the Bottom side: Mr. Prospector, Northern Dancer, Raise A Native, Native Dancer, and Nashua. This is the best breeding I've seen in a colt for a long time. I would like his chances to hit the board in the B.C. Classic, breeding alone, if he had done any racing at all on synthetics. He's 6-4-0-0 lifetime, but all of his races have been on conventional dirt at Belmont Park. If he take's to the pro-ride surface though, he may be a very good long shot to play in the Classic, seeing how he's entered in it.
On Wednesday, trainer Aidan O'Brien and Simon Crisford, Racing Manager for the Maktoum family's Godolphin operation, revealed their plans for the Breeders' Cup at a press event held at Epsom Downs racecourse in England.Read More
  • Rossington · Both of O'Brien's horses, Rip Van Winkle and Mastercraftsman are for real. I've watched a lot of replays of races that they've either won or gave Sea The Stars all he wanted. Personally, although O'Brien doesn't seem to think so, I feel that Mastercraftsman is a bit more talented even then Rip Van Winkle. I plan to bet Mastercraftsman whether he's in the Dirt Mile or the Classic. I do, however, feel that Rip Van Winkle will be right there with the front runner's come Classic's end. If she sticks with the Classic, it would for me be difficult not to bet Zenyatta to at least hit the board. She handles the synthetics and most particularly Santa Anita race course as well as any horse in racing does. Since it seems that most good turf horses do well on the pro-ride surface, I also wouldn't rule Gio Ponti out of this race either. Beyond that, it's difficult to say. Einstein has done well here in the past having won the S.A. Handicap earlier in the year. Richard's Kid, although a longshot, has done exceedingly well on synthetics having won the Pacific Classic and finishing third in the Goodwood. Summer Bird and Quality Road are the question mark's to me in the race. Having raced exclusively on conventional dirt, no one really knows how they will fire on synthetics. If he does, I feel Quality Road may be sitting on a big race having been bogged down on off tracks his last two races. Colonel John is also proven on synthetics, although I think this particular group of horses may be a little better competition than he used to facing. All and all, this is a tough race to handicap with a lot of "what if" factors to consider. I anxiously await. · 103 days ago

IEAH Stables President Mike Iavarone woke up Monday morning with a flu bug, but nothing could bring him down following the tremendous performance of his horses this past weekend. There is so much to discuss after the weekend's stakes extravaganza, but one race that likely had the most profound effect on the Breeders' Cup was the Goodwood Stakes (gr. I).Read More
  • Rossington · I say now or never for Zenyatta. If she had been entered in the Goodwood Stakes, Gitano Hernando or not, she could have won that race. There really wasn't much there to beat, imo. MTB who hasn't won a race since the Ky. Derby, Colonel John who runs well on the surface but is a bit overmatched in the Classic, Informed and Parading, whom neither have ran to par for some time now. So with Sea the Stars now retired, I say let Zenyatta run against the boys. Quality Road or Summer Bird are neither proven on the surface. Of the American entries, only Einstein may give her trouble. So let her run, so what if she finished 3rd to Rip Van Winkle and Midshipman. No shame in that. · 118 days ago

Godolphin Racing’s highly-touted 3-year-old Girolamo overwhelmed Kensei after a brief stretch duel and scored the $150,000 Jerome Handicap (gr. II) by 1 1/4 lengths Oct. 11 at Belmont Park in his first stakes appearance of the season. Read More
  • Medlocke · This was a race I really thought there was no way that Kensei could lose. But when he went to the gas tank in the stretch, all empty. Girolamo easily ran by him and Kensei didn't even have enough left to hold off Burley's Gold for second. I had seen Kensei run a few times this year and he's a big colt that usually runs big. But not this day. · 119 days ago
