Rahy's Attorney, fresh off a win in the Pan American (G3) at Gulfstream Park, heads a field of eleven in Friday's closing day Elkhorn Stakes (G2) at Keeneland. The consistent Ontario-bred gelding has been part of the exacta in six straight turf stakes races and enters as the solid 2-1 morning line fa...Read More

  • bigbrown2332 · I've been following him since his Connaught Cup score in 2008, it's nice to see the Canadian horses do well. I don't think he likes the surface at Keeneland though, but I think he should be a horse for the Breeders Cup Turf. I really like this horse and I think he's going to be really solid this year. · 1167 days ago ·
Sam-Son Farms’ Giant’s Tomb, away from competition since a fourth-place finish in the Grade I Queen’s Plate last summer at Woodbine, made his 2011 debut a successful one Sunday at Fair Grounds when winning the $53,000 allowance optional claiming feature over the Stall-Wilson turf course by a nose. &...Read More
With England's Queen Elizabeth II in attendance for the first time since 1997, front-running Big Red Mike stole the 151st renewal of the Queen's Plate with a gate-to-wire win by 1 1/2 lengths for jockey Eurico Rosa Da Silva at Woodbine July 4. Big Red Mike, who provided owner/breeder Terra Racing St...Read More
To win the Queen's Plate you need a horse that can survive a ten furlong battle while carrying 126lbs. Fortunately for trainer Greg De Gannes, he has a warrior on his side - Mobthewarrior, that is."I wouldn't trade places with anybody," said De Gannes on the Woodbine backstretch earlier this week...Read More

  • cugel the clever · The phrase "much the best" doesn't apply here. It's a fairly wide open race with good arguments to be made for half of the field. Not much early speed in the race which means that Big Red Mike could manage to steal it on the pace if the others let him get away with a slow front-running pace like the Trial. · 1467 days ago ·
  • cugel the clever · As I predicted, they let Big Red set a leisurely pace on the lead, and he won gate-to-wire. A bargain at 5:1. · 1466 days ago ·
The Queen’s Plate is not going to be an easy race to handicap this year as thirteen horses all try ten furlongs for the first time. In the mix you have one maiden (Vicar Street), two fillies (Roan Inish, Moment of Majesty), three Sam-Son Farms colts (Dark Cloud Dancer, Giant’s Tomb, Hotep) and a dis...Read More
When it comes to analyzing the Queen's Plate, handicappers go back and forth trying to sort out if the pace scenario will better benefit a front-runner, a stalker or a closer. In Sunday's Gallop For The Guineas, Sam-Son Farms conditioner Mark Frostad has effectively tapped the "ALL" button with his ...Read More
Stakes winner Hotep is the probable favorite as he makes his first start in Canadian restricted company in the $1-million Queen’s Plate at Woodbine on Sunday. The first leg of the Canadian Triple Crown, the 1 ¼-mile race on Polytrack attracted a field of 13 Canadian-foaled three-year-olds, including...Read More
Woodbine-based talent will be working to capture a pair of graded stakes events out-of-town on Saturday as Biofuel heads to Belmont and Bay to Bay travels to Monmouth Park for trainers Reade Baker and Brian Lynch. The deadline for entering the Queen's Plate Fantasy Challenge is midnight of Friday April 9th. 2010 will mark the 151st running of the Queen's Plate - the longest continuously run stakes race in North America. The race is restricted to Three-Year-Olds foaled in Canada competing for a purse worth $1,000,000. As in 2009, I will be competing in the Media Division of Woodbine's Queen's Plate Fant...Read More
  • humphrey · Some good names over the years but I love the 1870'sd FLOSS. BE sure you visit the Hall of Fame at Woodbine before it is boxed up and put into mothballs. They just fired their curator and founder who wrote the definitive book on the subject called A Royal Tradition. · 1556 days ago ·
Ken and Sarah Ramsey aren’t sure Pleasant Prince has enough graded-stakes earnings to make the field for the May 1 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), so they plan to race the colt in the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) at Keeneland April 10.Read More

  • rossington · There's no doubt that Victor Espinoza caused Lookin At Lucky some traffic problems in the Santa Anita Derby. But frankly, Gomez was riding Lucky that effective in the race anyway, before the issues with Victor's horse. That was as poor of a ride as I've ever seen Garrett Gomez give a horse with as much potential as LAL has. Victor Espinoza isn't at fault for how LAL was ridden the entire race. JMO. · 1556 days ago ·
  • arazi · The Derby earnings system if flawed, for sure. Make your bets, 2010 will be the last year for this crappy system. Humphrey, yes, the race is irrelevant. But, these horses are not. In a Derby filled with speed, don't count Interactif, Aikenite, Make Music for Me or Pleasant Prince out of it. · 1556 days ago ·

Disappointment and hope run in tandem on the trail.
