Just wondering, who are some of the biggest sires (in size) currently at stud. If I remember right, Giant Oaks name speaks for himself. Who else is a monster?

What was the outcome on Giant Oak's injury anyone know?

  • jkunz · Hope everything goes well! I know he has a full sis Apple Martini and a full bro born in 2010. Have they named the youngest sibling? This is some amazing blood. Look how long and hard he has stayed sound. Unfortunate that this had to happen! · 1609 days ago
  • bryan.tarra · as far as i know he does not have a name yet. this was really unfortunate, but hopefully he will be back in the spring and possibly in California in November · 1609 days ago
Hope Giant Oak goes in the Classic! His next race will be a win according to his recent statistics. He could be the shocker of the the year by winning the Classic. He is very fit just never know when he wants to win!
I would never underestimate this horse in a grade 1. If not in the Whitney, look out BC Classic.
I remember the trainer talking about his colt Giant Oak around the time of the triple crown races (horse now) and how we get frustrated with the colts immaturity and lack of focus. Hes really blossomed into a more mature horse with 2 consecutive grade one victorys. I think he ran a better race then 5th in the Stephen Foster, and I would not sell him short if he runs in the BC Classic.
I always felt that Giant Oak had enough talent that he would eventually win a big G1 race someday. For a time, in late 2009, early 2010, he seemed to have lost his way. Finishing worse in races than he should have been finishing. But prop's to whomever worked with Giant Oak and got him back into a winning grove again. He's looked really good in at least 4 of his last 5 races. To include a very decent effort in the Breeders Cup Marathon. An outstanding win in the Clark Handicap. And today, Giant Oak toppled an excellent field of competition to win the G1 Donn Handicap. Well done to connection's, and congrats to a very deserving horse.

Filling out my ballot for Illinois bred champions of 2010 ... I just can not name a horse HoY, who did not finish first in any of 10 races ... sorry Giant Oak.
Soft spot for a prep, but he's not good enough for the Derby. Hate to say it.
