What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Giant Oak...

Just wondering, who are some of the biggest sires (in size) currently at stud. If I remember right, Giant Oaks name speaks for himself. Who else is a monster?

Let’s face it, the Illinois Derby is not the strongest of preps for the Run for the Roses, but on the other hand, last time I checked it was still a Kentucky Derby prep. Not so according to the decision makers at Churchill Downs. Kind of odd for a race that I always enjoy attending and in the past d...Read More

  • ruffian75 · More like a "flaring nostril"!!!! I always felt that McCarron(who was on Cavonnier) was on cruise control late in the race, running alongside the rail to victory, when Bailey came flying on the extreme outside with Grindstone. I don't think McCarron ever saw that horse, until after the finish line. · 658 days ago ·
Daniel Sullivan, president of The Illinois Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Foundation, announced Feb. 13 that Giant Oak had been named the state’s 2011 Horse of the Year and champion older handicap male. Giant Oak, owned by Virginia H. Tarra Trust, is a homebred son of Giant’s CausewayRead More

My name is Brian Zipse, and I support Illinois racing. There I said it, and you know what? I’m proud of it. While I didn’t make it down to Fairmount Park this year (it’s nearly a five-hour drive,) I did have the pleasure of frequenting two fine and very different racetracks in Arlington Park and Haw...Read More

Illinois-bred and local Chicago favorite Giant Oak (Giant’s Causeway - Crafty Oak by Crafty Prospector) has retired from his illustrious racing career and will stand at stud at Millennium Farms in Lexington, KY. Let’s take a look back and celebrate the career of this champion!Read More
  • Winplacsho · Though an Illinois bred, I really think Giant Oak has a good shot at being an elite sire. He's proven on turf/dirt & could run all day. Also, his damsire is Crafty Prospector so there may be a little speed in there too. · 835 days ago ·
  • RobertPotter · This horse unfairly was dubbed many unkind nicknames...Giant Acorn and Giant Slug perhaps two of the better known monikers.Overall, he proved the naysayers wrong. He was a good horse even though he DID need things to be set up by others. A couple of the local trainers who relished referring to him as Giant Slug wouldn't know a good horse when they saw one! · 835 days ago ·

Multiple Grade 1 winner Giant Oak suffered a hind-end injury during a training mishap Thursday at Hawthorne Race Course.
