So sad to loose such a beautiful and talented race horse like this. I have followed his career for the past 4 yrs and he has brought me lots of joy and happiness. It's nice to see the love the owners and trainers had for this horse, because there are so many horses that being abused for no reason. These majestic animals have no voice and no defese against their abusors, I commend the team associated with Giant Ryan for knowing the right and humane thing to do, though very difficult and heartbreaking. Unfortunately when I heard of his injuries I knew it would take a miracle for him to recovery, so I prayed for one. It's too bad he won't have a chance to hook up with Z-girl or Rachel what a baby that would have been! Hope he is at peace now in horsey heaven! Best of luck and much happiness to his team in the future. I'll be keeping my eye on Trinniberg, as I liked him in the Derby! I think u got a winner!t
Rest in piece wonderful boy. I rooted for you in all of your races and through your injury and this is a heartbreaking end I know everyone hates to see. R.I.P. <3
So sad
It was a sad day hearing the news with Giant Ryan. With his surgery being delayed a few days before and now hearing that he was put to sleep. We lost a talented and beautiful racehorse yesterday. I was hoping that he would recover and retire, but it just didn't happen. Breaking the sesamoid bones it like a death sentence. But was worse is that Laminitis set in. Fortunately, he was humanely put to sleep so he didn't have to suffer through the pain of the injury or laminitis. I feel so sad for Parbhoo family with their loss. Although I'm sure, that Giant Ryan is in heaven running around playing with the other horses and racehorses. But, we should be thankful. Like Barbaro and Eight Belles, they died, but they saved so many more racehorses. Hopefully they will find the cause for laminitis so horses won't suffer and through it or be put down.

R.I.P. Giant Ryan. So very sad...too many. When they started talking about delaying the surgery I had flashbacks of Barbaro & all the other horses that are gone now due to this disease. Praying for MORE research & making a donation to the laminitis fund @ U. Penn. I'm so very sorry for your loss of this wonderful horse.
  • Junebug719 · Yes, our sympathies to those who loved him. He was such a great presence. Yes, we all need to give to donations to aid in research of this horrid disease. · 1746 days ago

This is terrible news! Absolutely terrible! I didn't know laminitis could set in that fast :( RIP Giant Ryan...you are missed already.

  • likin sparks · Unfortunately the vascular damage was severe and even if they could repair the bone damage the blood supply would not be there, very unfortunate but euthenasia was the correct choice. · 1747 days ago
