Older Comments about Gentildonna...

Surprised no one has mentioned yet that she races tomorrow in the G1 Takarazuka Kinen at Hanshin. She goes 2200m against some pretty stiff competition, including Meisho Mambo, Gold Ship, Verxina, Denim and Ruby, etc.

  • yukichan · I watch Japanese (and IRE, GB, AUS, NZ) in real time. The only country that I'd like to see more of is France. How are folks here watching the races in FR? · 1035 days ago

Next Race?
Could she have found anymore trouble in the stretch?! What a run by an amazing mare!
Runs a disappointing 6th on return in the Kyoto Kinen
The primary target of Gentildonna's 2014 campaign will be the Japan Cup
Gentildonna's first run of 2014 will be in the G2 Kyoto Kinen on February 16th, from there she will then ship to Dubai
  • paul.nathan.946 · Gentildonna vs the fugue what a mighty battle that will be in the sheema. · 1196 days ago
  • Sullivan · Gentildonna vs. The Fugue vs. Big Blue Kitten. Could be an even better race than the one ol' St. Nick put up last year, if that's possible · 1196 days ago
Gentildonna will bypass the Arima Kinen & rest until next year when she is brought back at five. she is training up to the Dubai Sheema Classic.

  • mkstorm · Think about this too - Sunday Racing owns both Buena Vista and Gentildonna. Buena Vista finished 2nd in the Sheem and Gentildonna finished 2nd in the Sheema. Buena Vista was ridden by Ryan Moore in the Dubai Cup and Gentildonna's new jockey is Ryan Moore. So I'm thinking the possibility of Gentildonna entering the Dubai Cup is not far fetched. · 1248 days ago
i knew she was sitting on a pretty big race. i hope they bring her back next year. i LOVE her!

Two daughters of Deep Impact come flying towards the wire in the Japan Cup...it's Gentildonna by the slimest of margins over the 3 years old Denim and Ruby! Tosen Jordan just a half length back!
Sunday marks the return of Gentildonna as she competes in the Tenno Sho. Off since June when she finished third to Gold Ship in the Takarazuka Kinen, she faces the likes of Eishin Flash and Tosen Jordan-who smashed the race and course record by over 1 second two years ago. TJ has yet to find that form. For that matter--Gentildonna has yet to reach the winner's circle in 2013. We can forgive her Dubai Sheema Classic, where she finished a game second to St. Nicholas Abbey and her loss to Gold Ship of a soft ground that wasn;t to her liking. I hold faith she finds the winner circle Sunday. Followers in Japan are concerned about her ability to shed the weight gain and rust from her time off. "She's shaping up nicely," said Ishizaka, her trainer. "I'm hoping the jockey will work her at least once before the race. It will have been a while, but we feel like she's getting there, step by step. She's just taking it slowly but surely and will be fine as long as she gets to the race in one piece." Hmmm, I hope there was something lost in translation there...

  • yukichan · Doubt anyone could have anticipated Tenno Sho winner's Just A Way's breathtaking turn of foot 400m from finish. The 4 yr. old by Heart's Cry won by 4 lengths over Gentildonna and Eishin Flash. · 1280 days ago
  • Northport · made Gentildonna look like she was standing still. Being his first win in 21 months, I have to wonder if he will perform like that again in the Cup (if they choose to enter, he hasn't gone 1 1/2 since finishing 11th in the derby) · 1280 days ago
As expected the big three, Gentildonna, Gold Ship and Tenno Sho winner Fenomeno were all in contention in the Takarazuka Kinen, but it would be Gold Ship to kick clear by 3 or 3 1/2 lengths. Danon Ballade just edged Gentildonna for third. She probably needed this race for her first start back--plus the soft going obviously does not suit her. Her goal is still the Arc.

  • yukichan · Fenomeno finished 4th, by the way. Connections of Gold Ship say the softer grounds due to recent rains helped, while Gentildonna's connections say it hindered her. That's was such a powerful charge in the end for Gold Ship, really beautiful. I believe Gentildonna will improve going forward. · 1406 days ago

Is anyone else excited to see her tonight?! Tough spot to return in, facing Gold Ship and Fenonemo in the Takarazuka Kinen. I see her to win.
Where is this Deep Impact filly?
  • On The Gallop's · She was given some time off after Dubai I believe and her connections are looking at a campaign later in the year. They did say during Dubai that she was going to run in the ARC, and then the Japan Cup. Prior I am not to sure. · 1419 days ago
  • rafirox · Thanks. She's a really nice filly, romping the Japanese Filly Triple and winning the Japan Cup over a drifting Orfevere. Gentildonna's second place finish to St. Nicholas Abbey was also pretty good considering how good a horse Nick is! · 1419 days ago
This filly is a beast! Although she was 2nd, very impressive.
Wow, that horse is a monster!! I just watched her Japan Cup...one word; WOW!

  • On The Gallop's · Age of Reason- Everyone has written that Orfevre did not run a strainght line especially when they were along side each other and she powered her way bye. Top Filly in training. I hope she runs well and shows her stuff! · 1494 days ago
After reading today's DRF article, it sounds like this filly could be the best pick of the day in Dubai on Saturday.

  • On The Gallop's · No money to be made. She is the best horse at the Carnival. By FAR. Her work out yesterday was eye popping from what I read on the Dubai site. · 1495 days ago

For those keeping track, JRA Horse of the Year, Gentildonna leaves March 22 for Dubai where she will contend in the Dubai Sheema Classic. Lets hope she travels well.
  • mkstorm · Was wondering if she was going to run in Dubai. Was a little disappointed that Orfevre is skipping. But at least Japan is shipping their HOY. · 1505 days ago
After seeing her performance no doubt a great filly any way will be beautifully to see her at Santa Anita or any good American track

This is a remarkable filly. 2013 will stamp her as the best filly ever!
