  • mentorass · Regarding The Derby Trial and Hull and heading for Prek, last year the Preakness '08 had an obvious winner BB, and looking for the second horse was the trick. (One really has to handicap every race, like not overlooking MTB, but BB was a stand out.) Anyway, when I did my numbers on PK '08 ~ Macho Again, who came out of the 7.5 furlong race he was very attractive. When I reviewed a visual/video of the race I fell in love with this horse . Which goes against one of my racing rules Never fall in love with a horse race, etc. Anyway the video showsw MA bumping into and being bumped by everything coming down the stretch to include the Clerk of Scales and the Parking attendant at the entrance to the track and MA ran in about +/- 1.27. And MA goes on to run second in PK '08 as you know, and Icabad Crane ran third. He then went on to pay some nice figures. AAAnnddd, guess who else came out of this race. The horse to beat BB in th Belmont, D'Tara. Butttt, the key to finding D'Tara to beat BB in the Belmont came out of the Preakness when on that card, D'Tara ran on the card and had a better time/speed performance, maybe even Beyer than Big Brown did that day. With Casino scratched, BB with footproblems and the racing god not going to give the triple crown to this connection, D'Tara was the horse. If you look at the 4fl and six fl fractions for MTB in his last, Sunland, before the KD they are the best of the rest. I scratched my head when Smarty Jones got beat, and now I know it was MTB's dad getting distance and a little horse with a lot of stuff inside. Check Hull's 4fl and six fl times against this field. · 1114 days ago ·
