MichaelHarris · Thank you Brian. I remember seeing Timely Writer as a two-year-old at Saratoga and marvelling at his acceleration. I was away at college the day he died, but I'll always remember the letter I received later that week from my brother, who had been at the race: he said that it felt like watching a friend die. MaidenKing · As a teen-ager, began playing the races at Suffolk Downs in the early 1980's. Timely Writer was the horse that put our track on the map at the time and everybody at the East Boston oval was rooting for him whenever he ran and we were crushed when he died on the track. LAZMANNICK · I somehow had a feeling that this would be your favorite. This one was always mine. What a closing effort from Runaway Groom, Canada's best three year old who would shine by upsetting America's best three year olds. He was second in the Queen’s Plate before winning the lengthily Prince of Wales and then the Breeders Stakes on turf, the 2nd and 3rd jewels in the Canadian Triple Crown. He came so close to being a great trivia question, what TC winner defeated the winners of three TC races in one race. I enjoy your nostalgic visits back to the good old days. · 273 days ago ·
