What the Nation is saying about Gallant Man...

Tomorrow, February 9, 2013, legendary horseman, John Nerud will celebrate his 100th birthday. His contribution to the game through his training, breeding, and owning of thoroughbred horses is among the most influential in the history of the sport. I personally wish Mr. Nerud a very happy birthday, a...Read More
When people ask me what my favorite Kentucky Derby was, I always respond with the 1990 edition won by Unbridled. It was my most memorable for several personal reasons: It was my first Kentucky Derby in person, I was a big fan of the strapping son of Fappiano, I talked many of my college buddies into...Read More

  • travel_vic · Two thing learned about Unbridled: 1st) he routinely ran INSDIE horses late in the stretch, as both his Derby and most obviously his Belmont BC Classic showed that unique ability. 2) His trouble in the Blue Grass went un-noted in the charts and accounting for the loss of ground in that contest, propelled him to be a strong contender three weeks late in Louisville...Finaly WHO can forget Nafzager ddesribing the winning move to Mrs. Genter the heir to the pop up toaster forturne! · 672 days ago ·

The Soviet Union was only a few months away from sending a dog into space, and in the world of thoroughbred horse racing, one of the most talked about races in history was about to be run under the famed twin spires. The main players were part of what many still call the fi...Read More

He was fantastic.
  • Protagonist · Yes he was, it's a sham that the owners dream came true after he switched jockeys' . The owners dream was that his jockey would miss judge the wire in the Derby ,just as Bill Shoemaker unfortunately did do on Gallant Man. Gallant Man's offspring did okay also, his son My Gallant ( Trained by Lou Goldfine ) was in the 1973 Kentucky Derby, and almost all of us know who won that one,SECRETARIAT ( Trained by Lucian Laurin ). Gallant Mans grandson Lord Gallant also did very well in the 1980's, what a Handsome and delightful horse he was . Good Luck Mickey /Jan wherever you might be! · 905 days ago ·

Best horse never to win an Eclipse award
John Nerud, 97, is old enough to vote. Nobody's given him a ballot, but as the Triple Crown sinks in the East, he's got an opinion. He won't be able to run for dogcatcher in Baltimore after this gets out. Nerud feels that the Preakness should be eliminated from the Triple Crown. "It's never been muc...Read More
