This video of champion Irish Rugby team visit to Coolmore is great, esp. when one "lad" is asked if he'd invest in horse like Galileo-"Not yet, interesting to see how he does reproduces over next few years." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWyXk-ERtF0
The King Galileo posing with Ireland's Mens National Rugby team. https://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=659019807494409&set=a.659019800827743.1073741828.287027754693618&type=1&theater
The busiest Coolmore flat sire in 2013? Galileo and Fastnet Rock tied at 193 mares. The busiest National Hunt stallions were Getaway (254 mares) and Yeats (252 mares). Full numbers can be seen here - https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=772799236082643&id=207036315992274
Not surprising, highly predictable and most deserving. Galileo is the 2013 European champion sire, making it the fifth time for him. Galileo’s 162 British and Irish winners in 2013 accrued £4,733,222 in prize money during the year, £2.2 million more than his nearest rival. Galileo’s achievements have also eclipsed anything achieved by stallions in America with his total 2013 North American and European earnings coming to $14,354,382, according to figures generated by The Jockey Club.
Taking what this horse accomplished on the racetrack, winner of the G3 Ballysax Stakes, G3 Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial, G1 Epsom Derby, G1 Irish Derby, G1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes, plus a 2nd in the G1 Irish Champion Stakes, and combine that with what he's produced off the racetrack in the breeding shed, you could make a strong argument for Galileo being one of the most valuable thoroughbreds in racing history, on either side of the Atlantic. He's been the leading sire in Great Britain & Ireland in 2008, 2010, 2011, & 2012, and as of June 16, 2013 he has sired 35 invidual Group or Grade 1 winners world wide, and as of August, 2011 he has sired 100 stakes winners from only seven crops of racing age. That my friends is what they call a machine in the breeding industry. His list of multiple G1 winning offspring reads like a who's-who of racing over the past decade. His multiple G1 winners include the likes of Red Rocks, Teofilo, New Approach, Soldier of Fortune, Alandi, Lush Lashes, Rip Van Winkle, Cape Blanco, Frankel, Nathaniel, Misty For Me, Roderic O'Connor, Treasure Beach, Golden Lilac, & Igugu. He also had several sons & daughters that were 1-time Group 1 winners which include Allegreto, Sixties Icon, Galikova, Intello, Great Heavens, Altano, Sans Frontieres, Lily of the Valley, Together, Was, and Imperial Monarch, Ruler of the World, & Kingsbarns all 3 with 1 Group 1 win each to date but all are still active with a chance to win more. There's no way you could accurately put a pricetag on the net worth of Galileo, IMO.

Stud fee in 2008 was 225,000 euros, 2009 175,000 euros, 2010-2013 private. I am curious to know what his stud fee is now. Fastnet Rock also is listed as Private with coolmore, and last year his stud fee was 220,000 .

  • Northport · Thanks for the confirmation, Yukichan - I am very jealous that you met the great one!! · 1257 days ago
  • yukichan · It was not the best time to visit as most stallions were shuttled. But not Galileo, Danehill Dancer, Footstepsinthesand or Holy Roman Emperor! Pictures on my FB...I can die a happy woman now. · 1257 days ago
Who was the better sire this year Galileo or Kittens Joy? Cause in my eyes they were the 2 best sires in the world this year.

  • amino998 · Deep Impact to complete the exacta anyone? Or another Euro? · 1287 days ago
  • jonquil · @Northport: In this case I don't think that's a really fair way to judge the two. Galileo is a firmly established Coolmore-backed stallion. Using G1s in multiple countries to judge the better gives Galileo a clear advantage that perhaps doesn't totally have to do with his ability as a champion sire. · 1287 days ago
This post is for rafirox. Look at galileo's pedigree and his pedigree tells you how much names like sadlers wells and mr prospector are so influential. Cause together in the same pedigree close up has created europes all time greatest sire galileo who will go on and carry thoes bloodlines in his foals who are running better then anyones else foals in the world

  • amino998 · It depends on what the meaning of what the word *IS* >> er, crapshoot, is. · 1402 days ago
  • Northport · rates rarely keep up? Sadler's Wells stood only in Ireland and sired 80 G1 winners in 24 seasons... Galileo has 35 G1 winners from 11 crops of racing age, including this years barely raced 2 y/os... he is already ahead of SW when it comes to average number of G1 winners a year. If he was going to plateau it's about 5 years too late · 1402 days ago
The King continues to reign Supreme. Another Classic sired by Galileo.

  • Sully · Sorry, but I can't resist. You asked, and everyone on here will tell you I can't resist bragging...I know that's not true, but whatever. Latest developments in my life...again, you asked. I'm currently bidding on some contracts, will let you know if I win one or not. Then you can really hate on me. Have a great job since having to medically retire from the Corps. Don't look for any accolades from this, but I will defend (as I did before) any bashing from assholes towards our service men/women. I really don't know what else to catch u up on. And I know you never bashed the service men/women, but you consistently defended many that did including your fatass friend. So you can copy this and email it to his annoying ass if that's what you wish. · 1417 days ago

who do you think are the top ten active sires right now? mine (in no particular order) are Galileo, Distorted Humor, Awesome Again, Malibu Moon, Tiznow, Street Cry, Tapit, Unbridled's Song, Giant's Causeway, & Medaglia d'Oro.

perhaps going to be one of the greatest sire of all time. hes produced the up & coming Ruler of the World, Frankel, Igugu, Cape Blanco. New Approach, Red Rocks, Rip Van Winkle, Nathaniel, Treasure Beach, & many more. unbelievably impressive.
  • Dressage3295 · Excellent sire. If I had a mare who I could afford to send overseas- it would be to him! · 1441 days ago
  • zxswordxz · Currently the best Sire. I can't believe american breeders are not pulling a "Arthur [Bull]Hancock" with this one like he did with Nearco. If you can't get the best Sire, settle for the next best thing, his son(Nasrullah). Bobby flay made a smart move, he already own breeding rights to Nathaniel. · 1441 days ago
What a pedigree. No wonder he is such a monster sire. However, I don't remember much of his racing career.

  • RamonDimas · yeah he should have a higher rating!! · 2040 days ago

His yearling filly out Sanjida (half sister to Sarafina) just sold for $2,445,180!!!
What a week it's been for this long time top European sire standing for Coolmore-Ireland. In less than a week, Galileo is responsible for Nathaniel beating 2 of the top middle distances horses in racing in Workforce and St Nicholas Abbey in the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. And today, Galileo was responsible for the amazing Frankel running rough shod over arguably the best older turf miler in racing in Canford Cliffs. Galileo just continues to produce top level horses year after year!!
  • yukichan · Galileo's reign continues in the 2 yr old crop of fillies too. At Curragh, Galileo's Was and Cabin go 1-2 in Breeders Fund Fillies, and Maybe wins the G2 Debutante. · 2086 days ago
