The decision by Fair Grounds to rearrange its stakes schedule and push the Louisiana Derby back to March 27 did much more than simply motivate Gulfstream management to move the Grade 1 Florida Derby up a week to March 20 to avoid a potential head-to-head conflict between the two races. It has also p...Read More

Furthest Land, last-place finisher as the 3-5 favorite a month ago in his first race since capturing the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (gr. I), can make amends Feb. 7 in the $150,000 San Antonio Handicap (gr. II) at Santa Anita. Read More
The role of leader for the $750,000 Santa Anita Handicap on March 6 is up for grabs. Either the $200,000 Strub Stakes for 4-year-olds next Saturday or the $150,000 San Antonio Handicap next Sunday should help fill that role.Read More

  • Medlocke · Who in the world would have thought that a horse like Furthest Land, that was able to beat the 2008 B.C. Dirt Mile winner in Midshipman, and the Irish 2000 Guineas and St. James Palace Stakes winner Mastercraftsman, would finish dead last to Neko Bay, Spurrier, Nownownow, Bold Chieftan, Goldsville, and Cherokee Artist on the very same track just two month's after beating those Grade 1 winner's in the 2009 B.C. Dirt Mile? Racing is a funny game sometimes. · 61 days ago
Saturday’s pick six from Santa Anita Park includes the Grade 2 San Pasqual. Breeder’s Cup Dirt Mile winner Furthest Land is the one to beat. He is 3 for 3 over synthetic ground and should sit a decent stalking trip. Partly cloudy skies are expected with a high temperature of 77.  Read More

  • Rossington · Devanni, yes that was said about Einstein. Before the Classic it was being stated that this would most likely be Einstein's last race. But I don't think his connection's counted on an 11th place finish in the Classic. I, for one, am personally glad that they're giving this great champion one more shot at going out with glory. And against a pretty competitive field in Misrembered, Bullsbay, Macho Again, Giant Oak, and Furthest Land. All the best to Einstein. I'll surely be sentimentally rooting for him to win the Clark Handicap. · 112 days ago
Ken Ramsey is well known for having tremendous success with claiming horses, but the longtime owner pulled off his best claim with Furthest Land, who won the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (gr. I) Nov. 7 at Santa Anita one year after being plucked for $35,000.Read More

  • Rossington · I really enjoyed this year's Breeders Cup race's, highlighted by Zenyatta's remarkable win in the Classic. But this really was a weekend that showcased a great deal of female talent. Other than Zenyatta, the next biggest performances for me over the weekend were Informed Decision winning the F&M Sprint, Goldikova defending her Mile title, and Life is Sweet winning the Ladies Classic. Of the male's, I think Conduit repeating as champion in the B.C. Turf sticks out the most to me. A very classy and competitive horse that will have this championship as a great caper to a great career. But I'd also like to throw a shout out to a couple of 2nd place finishers. In the B.C. Turf, I thought Presious Passion would run himself out of the race but he showed a ton of heart digging in a taking Conduit to the edge and hanging on for 2nd against two very good horses in Dar Re Mi and Spanish Moon. Also, imo, enough can't be said about the game performance that Gio Ponti put up in the Classic. Even though losing to a superstar in Zenyatta, Gio Ponti looked as tough over the pro-ride surface Saturday as he has in some of his turf races. So prop's to Presious Passion and Gio Ponti for their terrific efforts on Saturday. · 125 days ago
The first of eight Breeders’ Cup races on Saturday went to Pounced, who did just that in the Turf Sprint. Chalk up another win for the euros. Bridgetown set the pace and held the place by a head over Interactif. Frankie Dettori booted home the John Gosden trainee. Read More

In most races, a keen understanding of handicapping and tools such as Ragozin speed figures are usually the key elements in selecting a winner. Yet in the $750,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes (G1) today at Belmont Park you need to add one other item to the list: a degree in meteorology. Read More
