What the Nation is saying about Famous Name...

Today marked the 21st win of Famous Name's career, as he won the listed Trigo Stakes at Leopardstown. This made the 5th straight win for Famous Name, and he's won 7 of his 9 races in 2012. His only 2 losses were a 2nd to So You Think in the G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup and a 3rd behind Penitent and Questioning in the G2 Bet365 Mile at Sandown. Famous Name continues to be an incredible money spinner for Juddmonte Farms, and I suspect he will be until Prince Khalid Abdullah decides to retire him.
What a tremendous $ speinner this horse has been for Juddmonte and trainer Dermot Weld. Famous Name won the G3 Solonaway Stakes in Ireland on Sunday, making the 20th win of his career, and running his career record to an amazing 37-20-8-5. With the win at the Curragh on Sunday, Famous Name has now won 12 G3 races, 6 listed stakes races, and 1 G2 race. A win at G1 level is the only thing that continues to elude him. Famous Name has run in 8 G1 races during his career. He's finished 2nd in 4 of them and 3rd in 2 of them. He's been close to scoring at the highest level. Beaten only a nose by Vision D'Etat in the 2008 Prix Du Jockey Club, 1-1/2 lengths by Aqlaam in the 2009 Prix Du Moulin, and 1-1/2 lengths by Durban Thunder in the 2011 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis in Germany. Dermot Weld has said he really wants to see Famous Name win just 1 G1 race before he's eventually retired. Weld has said he's considering bringing him to Santa Anita to run in the G1 BC Mile in November. But even without a G1 win, this horse still has an amazing record in stakes races.

  • ILuvTurfRacing · @footlick, I agree completely. Famous Name is one of my favorite Juddmonte horses still currently in training. For me, he's rivaled only by Frankel and Cityscape. Famous Name is living proof that you don't have to be a G1 winner to be a cash register for the connections. · 254 days ago ·

At listed to G3 stakes level, you just simply cannot hardly beat Famous Name in Ireland. At the Curragh, and most particularly at Leopardstown. Where he's definitely a course specialist. Famous Name won the G3 Meld Stakes for a 3rd straight year at Leopardstown today. But just because he's racked up so many wins at listed and G3 level, don't be fooled. Famous Name has also run some outstanding races at G1 and G2 level over the course of his career, too. His biggest run at G1 level coming in the 2008 G1 Prix Du Jockey Club in France. Where he was just barely nosed out at the wire by Vision D'Etat. Trainer Dermot Weld is strongly considering bringing Famous Name stateside next month for the G1 Arlington Million. Weld has said that the hope for Famous Name is to win just one race at G1 level before he's retired. Being that he's been so close more than once in his career of winning at G1 level. I'm big fan of this horse. Love the work ethic he has race in and race out.

After Saturday’s Irish Champion Stakes, I’m fairly certain that many of us have run out of ways to describe So You Think. To borrow a line I heard in a commercial, “…all I can say is ‘wow’…” It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve watched So You Think race, he still continues to amaze me. That was the...Read More

  • Rossington · @mary.schweitzer, That's correct!! It was on England's Racing Post web-site this morning that Aidan O'Brien intends to send Cape Blanco back to America to run in the G1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic at Belmont on Oct. 2nd. The Joe Hirsch being 1-1/2 race should put Cape Blanco spot on for this year's Breeders Cup Turf. Likely Clement will send Winchester out after Cape Blanco instead of Gio Ponti this time. The race being 1-1/2 instead of 1-1/4. · 625 days ago ·

  • humphrey · IT is interesting to hear Jerry Bailey speak abou the differences in turf course especially their "give" (Euro courses use an average penethrometer reading of how deep a weight goes into the course from a standard height) as a measure. Bailey also notes how some are manicured (fast) and others are left long (deep with closers) · 978 days ago ·
