Augustin Stable’s Smart Bid, who missed by a nose in his last start when second in the Grade I Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap, turned up on the more profitable side of the photo finish camera when he captured the $400,000 Grade II Mervin Muniz Memorial Handicap by a nose on Saturday’s Louisiana Derby...Read More
First, Belmont Day 2010 he knocks me from a killer tri/super in the Manhattan. Today, at 32/1 odds he kicks me out of both a Pick3 and Pick4. I might include him next time, he'll probably run dully then.

  • cugel the clever · It's a no-brainer decision. It must be the BC Turf. Would be an idiotic decision to run him on a surface over which he has never raced in the BC Classic against possibly three super-horses; Zenny, Rachel, and QR. 12 furlongs may be a stretch for him but he's proven himself against the best on turf. That's where his best chance lies. Better to stand a strong chance of winning the Turf than a certain out of the money finish in the Classic. · 1379 days ago ·

  • arazi · This is a really good point. People forget, but Mandella is right. Very few horses come back from Dubai and are competitive in May and June. There have been plenty of flops over the years. I wouldn't toss Gio, but I would definitely spread in the Pick 4 around him. · 1416 days ago ·
