What the Nation is saying about Excelebration...

HE'S BACK. Frankel made it a remarkable ten wins from ten career starts with a scintillating reappearance in easily seeing off his old rival Excelebration for the fourth time. Read More
  • ILuvTurfRacing · Put this race in perspective. Excelebration with a Timeform rating of 133. The third highest rated horse in the world behind Frankle and Black Caviar. Aidan O'Brien even managed to slip in a 2012 seasonal debut race for him at the Curragh in Ireland, and he romped home easily that day in the G3 Gladness Stakes. Conventional wisdom would've been that race fitness, if nothing else, should've been on Excelebration's side at Newbury. Frankel comes in off of a 200+ day lay-off, and really decides this race for everyone before it ever really gets started. He buries a cracking good horse in his own right in Excelebration again, for a 4th time, faster than you can say Jack Sprat. And he wins going away by some 4 or 5 length's hard held, in hand. Every time I see this horse race these days, that old Rolling Stones song, "Beast of Burden" starts playing over and over in my mind. LOL. · 7 days ago ·

Dross won one GR1 and a Listed stakes......but also finished behind ( A sprinter) Jackson's bend in the GR3 Skip away....this horse is not of the same Caliber. Frankel beat how many multiple GR1 winners?.......beating a sorry Dirt field in the last Classic doesn't propel you to the top... · 109 days ago ·

  • medlocke · I often wondered why Joshua Tree wasn't sent over for the 2010 BC Turf when he was still racing for Coolmore, after he won the 2010 G1 Canadian International Stakes? Joshua Tree very likely could've won last year's BC Turf standing on his head it was such a weak field. He'll face a much tougher and field at Churchill Downs this year than he would've a year ago. But he looked to be coming back into solid form again with his 2nd place run behind Sara Lynx in Sunday's G1 Canadian International Stakes. I think he'll make for a fine addition to this year's BC Turf field. JMO. · 221 days ago ·

  • rossington · I haven't heard officially one way or the other if Henry Cecil and Prince Khalid Abdullah intend to make the trek to Churchill Downs with Frankel in 3 weeks time for the BC Mile or not? But regardless whether Frankel shows up for the race or not? He's left little doubt that he's the best turf miler in the world by a street this year. If he does show up for the BC Mile? My advise to everyone is to lump on big. Because with no disrespect intended to Goldikova or Freddie Head, Frankel could likely stop halfway through the race to take a p-ss, and still beat Goldikova with a fare bit in hand. • medlocke · @woodbinemile, At their best, I think both Immortal Verse and Dick Turpin are really good turf milers. But Frankel's really in a category all his own. I think Immortal Verse is likely to find out the hard way that beating Goldikova over a mile like she did in the Prix Jacques Le Marois is a different proposition altogether than trying to beat to Frankel over a mile? I heard through some sources that I have through the international grapevine that Coolmore has either already bought, or is in very serious negotiation's to by Excelebration. With all the middle distance talent that the stable has in Ireland, I think they're looking for a horse that has the potential to become a star miler for them, and Excelebration certainly fit's that bill. This colt was dominate in his recent win in the G2 Hungerford Stakes at Newbury, and he also won the German 2000 Guineas in romp earlier in the year. Excelebration also has 2 very respectable run's behind Frankel this year in the Greenham Stakes and the St Jame's Palace Stakes. With Rip Van Winkle and Mastercraftsman both being retired over the past couple of seasons, I think it's left Ballydoyle a little short handed for horses capable of going out and winning at G1 level over a mile. I think Excelebration will be a great acquisition for the stable, and I wouldn't at all be surprised to see Coolmore have him as their representative to run against Goldikova in the Breeders Cup Mile this year at Churchill Downs!!
Trainer Marco Botti runs Excelebration, twice placed behind the brilliant Frankel this season, in Saturday's Group 2 CGA Hungerford Stakes at Newbury over seven furlongs.   The $125,000 stakes race is the feature contest of the week in British racing and will be simulcast live at Saratoga. THE brilliant Frankel stretched his unbeaten run to seven by landing the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot on Tuesday. Sent off at 30-100, Frankel stormed clear turning for home, but began to fade as the Aidan O'Brien-trained Zoffany got going for Ryan Moore. Read More
  • medlocke · Given the severity of the mistake made by Tom Queally with that very premature move in the St James's Palace, Frankel is very lucky that it was just inferior 3yr.old's that he was facing today, IMO. He was definitely paddling at race's end, and Zoffany was closing on him like a shot. Henry Cecil's been talking about taking Frankel to Goodwood next to take on Canford Cliffs in this year's G1 Sussex Stakes. But what I saw out of Canford Cliffs and Goldikova in the Queen Anne today, if Frankel had been facing top level, older milers like Canford Cliffs or Goldikova in this race? He definitely would've been swept aside, and dealt his first career loss today. JMO. · 347 days ago ·

  • Rossington · Right after Frankel crossed the wire just 3/4 of a length ahead of Zoffany in the St Jame's Palace, the camera man spanned his camera into the stand's, and pointed it at Sir Henry Cecil. A picture really is worth a thousand word's. Because Cecil had a real look of disgust on his face for jockey Tom Queally not carrying out his instruction's, and very nearly allowing his star colt to get at the wire by Zoffany. Cecil did not look happy, one bit. I'd imagine he'll be telling Tom Queally that from now on, he ride's Frankel Henry's way, or no way at all!! · 347 days ago ·

A friend of mine mentioned prior to the race that he was going with GC & Tiznow, stating that although it was GC's first effort on dirt, he was on the extreme outside, and he wouldn't have any dirt kicked in his face. Maybe Frankel can draw the outside, and not be fazed. · 347 days ago ·

  • rossington · There's going to be some other very decent 3yr.old's in the St James's Palace Stakes field that are already G1 winners in Europe themselves. I.E., Dream Ahead, Wootton Bassett, Excelebration, and Zoffany. That said, Frankel is literally in a league all his own among his 3yr.old pears. The running of the St James's Palace is almost just a formality, IMO. Frankel's likely to never be truly tested until he step's up against older horses. They say that great horses can run on any surface? Henry Cecil brought Twice Over to America in 2009 to try and win the Breeders Cup Classic. But IMO, if Cecil so chose to put Frankel on the conventional dirt at Churchill Downs? This horse would give him a much bigger chance of winning the Breeders Cup Classic than he had with Twice Over. With all of the better conventional dirt horses now retired, I.E., Zenyatta, Blame, Lookin At Lucky, and Quality Road, likely as not, Frankel would romp against what's left among the American hopeful's in this year's Classic.
