  • medlocke · Espoir City is a very talented colt to say the least. He lends a very good international flavor to this year's Breeders Cup Classic. 6 wins and 2 place efforts in 9 lifetime starts. 4 of his 6 win's are G1 victories. He likes to do his running on the front end, and his plenty of front running speed. I would expect to see Espoir City somewhere very near the front of the race along with Haynesfield and Quality Road. If there's a knock on this colt that could be called into question, it would be his stamina? How well, if at all, will Espoir City handle 10 furlongs? Of his 9 races on conventional dirt in Japan, Espoir City has raced 6 times at a mile, and 3 times at 9 furlongs. He's yet to ever attempt 1-1/4 in his career. The talent is certainly there for all to see with this colt. But the Breeders Cup Classic field, IMO, will be a very difficult first time testing ground to try and answer the 10 furlong question with? TJMO. · 568 days ago ·

  • curlin · Honestly, compared to american or european racing how tough is japanese racing? I mean, are the quality of horses on par with what we have here. I doubt it personally. · 563 days ago ·

There has been little Japanese participation in the Breeders' Cup over the years, just three starters in all, the last being Personal Rush, who finished sixth of 13 as a 25-1 shot in the Breeders' Cup Classic won by Ghostzapper in 2004 at Lone Star Park. But Japan will be well represented this year ...Read More
Move over Zenyatta, Blame, Quality Road, and Lookin At Lucky. You may have company in the form of a Japanese invader. Most American racing fan's don't even know of this horse. Unless it's a die hard fan that keeps up with racing world wide, as I myself do. Espoir City is a phenomenal colt. Eat's up conventional dirt surfaces. 8-6-1-0 lifetime. With his six win's having come in a row. Also, five of those six win's being G1 win's. He also has a G3 win as well. His only out of money finish was the 2009 G1 February Stakes. Where Espoir City finished 4th. But has since come back to destroy the field, and win the 2010 running of the February Stakes. He's also the winner of the 2009 Japan Cup (Dirt). This colt has real front end speed, and stamina to match. He's pretty much ran away with every race on dirt I've seen the replays of. One of the horses he trounced in the 09' Japan Cup (Dirt) was America's Tizway. This colt is a real talent. And if he does indeed come to America for the Breeders Cup Classic? He could change the whole dimensions of the race. He'll certainly guarantee a strong pace. Which would be very beneficial to Zenyatta's late closing efforts. Provided Mike Smith doesn't wait too late to try and run Espoir City down. But I really believe he'll be a difficult beat for dirt horses like Blame, Quality Road, and Lookin At Lucky. JMO.
