What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Elite Alex...

While most of the local media and some horsepeople were enjoying the QUEEN’S PLATE GOLF TOURNAMENT at the super ROYAL WOODBINE GOLF COURSE on Wednesday, racing  went on during a warm night. Notable on the night was the 40 to 1 upset by MOLINARO REMARKS in the maiden allowance (Ont.…Read More
The Kentucky Derby flu season is starting. In a few weeks, the fever will sweep thoroughbred racing. In a month, the disease will be everywhere. You can get a shot at your corner Walgreens to prevent it. But you’re probably better off taking two aspirin and waiting three months for the condition to ...Read More

  • Thoroughbred44 · I like Calvin, I mean, who else can win 3 of 4 Derby's? But I do not care for the way he rode Rachel in the Woodward, he was hitting her like crazy! It made me disappointed because both are absolutely phenomenal, but that was a disappointing win for me to see her like that, and how he just left her with no energy for her 2010 season. · 743 days ago ·

Elite Alex is the 4-5 morning line favorite in the 10th race at Delaware Park on May 11. The flat mile optional claiming event is his first start since disapponting in the Arkansas Derby. He was bred in Canada and might have his eye on the June 26 Queen's Plate.
  • Lmaris · He got beat badly (7 lengths) in a $16,000 optional claiming race. Explains his showing in the Arkansas Derby - he's not graded stakes quality. · 744 days ago ·

  • bigbrown2332 · I'd back off him if I were Ritchie. I think Rithie put this horse in deep water before he could swim. I hope he gets a bit of a freshening and comes back in an allowance race over poly track or something to set him up for the Queens Plate, or maybe the Prince Of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie on the dirt. Anyway I don't think he's a bad horse, i don't like how Ritchie worked him in between the Lousianna Derby and the Arkansas Derby. 1:11 and change is asking a lot. i think he's a nice horse and if he gets a rest he could pick some more hype again. · 764 days ago ·

The Factor has arrived in Arkansas, and yes that is big news to ardent fans of the Kentucky Derby such as me. • gettyde · Everyone wants The Factor to do well cause everyone is desperate for another great horse to emerge. The problem is that this group looks pretty darn lackluster. Speed figures don't lie. The rest of these horses just aren't running that fast. Watch out for Sway Away; he's a horse that has natural speed and the breeding to take all the way. How bad would you want to run if you had you tooth snapped off? · 771 days ago ·

  • bigbrown2332 · Well I agree with what you have to say gettyde, a lot of people want a great horse to come about. I wanted that to for a while to, but I think Zenyatta filled that desperateness for me. I know a lot of people say that she was a good mare, but not the best. but what she did for racing and what not, to me that shows a superhorse, and I do think she ranks up with there with the best mares, and best of all, thats what my gut tells me, so anyone who wants to get mad at me for what makes horse racing, keep it to yourselves...( with all do respect) . Like you said Speed figures don't lie, and there's not a star studded field lining up for the derby, but it's not lackluster. If you count in the whole crop of three year olds, you'll find a lot of very nice horses that have bright futures. · 771 days ago ·

  • LDP19 · I wonder why every horse can have a second chance but Mo. He was very under trained, and trained almost backwardsly. Pletcher revved him up for the wrong race then let him go with 2 easy half mile works in 4 weeks. The flip flop of venues was also not a fantastic decision. Mike made a mistake there, but everyone makes a few. Mo did not fold like a weak tent, in fact he fought pretty hard even though he, IMO did not look comfortable over that track. · 776 days ago ·

I think so too, this horse is a sleeper. However what might solidify his standing for the K-Derby is his choice next week at Arkansas Derby or he's going to sing; "Littlerock".
  • brent.austin.neikirk · He has to finish either 1 or 2 next weekend and that will put him into the top 20 in graded earnings. Right now he has $65,000 and #41 according to DRF.com. I'd like to see him finish a close 2nd 'cuz if he finishes 1st especially by a good margin, then everybody will jump on the bandwagon and we won't get as much value. I like EA, Nehro and Brethren for the Arkansas as of today, but that could change depending on who else goes or scratches. But for sure, watch out for EA!!! · 776 days ago ·

Watch out for this guy in the AR Derby! I haven't moved him out of my top 10 since I put him in which was January. He's very talented, he's just had some bad luck.

  • brent.austin.neikirk · I think he's a lot better than people think. I've been high on this guy for a while now. I love his pedigree which has tons of stamina influences and he has shown he has some speed, see his last work and his maiden win. He's just had bad luck from wide posts, too far back early on in the race and coming very wide on the turn for home, but still managing to get up for 4th in his last and 3rd in the Southwest. This guy should love the 10f Derby distance if he gets in! Though, he has to be either 1 or 2 in the AD to have enough earnings. · 779 days ago ·

With Calvin Borel aboard, Elite Alex, working from the gate in company with Alex's Vision, showed tremendous early speed, getting his opening quarter in :22 2/5, a half in :46 2/5, and five-eighths in :58 3/5. After cruising past his workmate he drew away in the stretch and galloped out seven furlongs in 1:25 3/5.

  • annmatt · I sure hope you are right about Dialed In! Every horse I have rooted for (so far) has lost! They did good early on, until I got on their bandwagon, and then they have lost! I'm hoping that eventually my luck has to change .... even a blind hog can find an acorn once in a while! What worries me about hanging onto your coattail is you blew it in the G'Stream Oaks, so I hope my bad luck doesn't rub off on you! BTW, I think I actually undertand what you meant in your explanation aboout Mo being trained for the TC more than just the first Sat in May. I'm certainly not advanced enough to know if you are being bold or not! But I will be around to help you celebrate if it turns out to be true! If Mo is the horse to give us a TC, I can root for that outcome. Short term and at least in the FL Derby, I'm sticking with D.I.! · 783 days ago ·
