What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about El Vino...

Sad to hear that El Vino, Zenyatta's former workmate, sustained a fracture while playing in a paddock today, and was euthanized. RIP.

  • Buckpasser · Sad to hear. Retired to save him from a possible fatal injury on the track and yes very ironic that this would happen. · 99 days ago ·

El Vino, who frequently worked in company with 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta last year, reached the winner's circle for the first time in Friday's sixth race. Ridden by Victor Espinoza, El Vino ($10.60) closed from mid-pack to win a $50,000 claiming race for maidens by 1 1-4 lengths over 6-5 favor...Read More

  • medlocke · Lookin At Lucky, Blame, and Quality Road have all raced very well this year on conventional dirt. But Zenyatta also handle's the surface very well herself. Lucky, Blame, and Q.R. are all very capable colt's. Capable of springing an upset on Zenyatta if she's not at her dead level best at Churchill Downs. That said, she's been at her best 19 consecutive times. So I just don't see her suddenly "spitting out the dummy" so to speak in her 20th, and likely final race of her career. It's also a huge advantage to Zenyatta that she get's a little weight given to her, instead being the one carrying a boulder while the others carry a brick. Horses that Zenyatta have given a huge weight allowance to haven't been able to beat her. I just don't see her getting beaten with the boys having to concede weight to her. That's like giving someone ammunition for a loaded gun. IMO. · 1273 days ago ·

Zenyatta breezed six furlongs in 1:14.80 at Hollywood Park on Monday, a workout that was slower than some of her recent drills. Zenyatta will make her next start in the $250,000 Vanity Handicap on June 13. Monday's work was her second-to-last workout before that race, when she will attempt to stretc...Read More
Zenyatta is ready for her first road trip outside of California in two years for the $500,000 Apple Blossom Handicap at Oaklawn Park next Friday, but her final workout at Hollywood Park on Friday was not without drama. Zenyatta breezed six furlongs in 1:13.40 under regular rider Mike Smith, but the ...Read More
