What the Nation is saying about Eightyfiveinafifty...

Eightyfiveinafifty has been entered in a 5 1/2F AOC at Laurel on 9/15. Will be interested to see how he comes back. If he is near his previous best he should blow the field away.

  • TripleCrownCoug · I'm guessing if he wins with any kind of authority he will come back in the DeFrancis Dash. Probably why they chose a race at Laurel. · 146 days ago ·

Eightyfiveinafifty, speedy winner of the Grade 3 Bay Shore at Aqueduct in 2010, is still weeks away from a return to racing even after turning in a bullet work over the main track at Saratoga Wednesday morning, covering five furlongs in 59.76, handily.   Owned by Harold Lerner, et al, Eigh...Read More
See that Eightyfiveinafifty is back on thye worktab. Went 3 furlongs on the Belmont training track in a slow(for him) 37.88. Either he's mellowed a lot or he's not the same. GWill give him one more work to see if he picks up. Know he has been incredibly sick. Must not be any decent stud options or he probably would be retired after what he's gone through. Will watch with interest.
  • bigbrown2332 · Don't expect him to go so fast when he's getting back on the work tab. Just becasue he went slow his first work back off a layoff doesn't mean that he's not the same horse. He needed a nice easy work under his belt first, and don't be suprised if he goes slow for the next few weeks. He won't get to serious speed wise in his works for a bit longer. I still have complete faith in him. Contessa can get him back to the way he was. He said he was going to make him into the best sprinter in the country. · 301 days ago ·

  • TripleCrownCoug · I'm all for bringing him along slowly, but the old 85ina50 WOULDN"T go slow. My point is that the fact that they could get a slow work into him means he's either matured and mellowed enough to be restrained or he isn't capable of it yet. Interested to see which it is. · 298 days ago ·

I wonder why he isn't racing or I haven't heard about him since Belmont Day.

  • medlocke · I guess it must be distance issue's with this colt? Given that he didn't attempt to run in any of the three Triple Crown races this season. But, IMO, D'Funnybone has raced over conventional dirt as impressively and as effectively as any of the other 3yr.old contenders this season has. He's certainly won more races over conventional dirt than any of the other 3yr.old's that I've seen. · 611 days ago ·

  • mdracing69 · D'Funnybone is deadly at seven furlongs and I have to give Dutrow and company credit for keeping the distance challenged colt in sprints. Keep an eye on Trappe Shot. He ran faster than D'Funnybone on the Belmont undercard at the same 7f distance and appears to have plenty of upside for McLaughlin. · · 610 days ago ·
