What the Nation is saying about Eight Belles...

Eight Belles will be one of those horses that will always be remembered. She will remembered for her huge heart, her great performance in the Derby, her beautiful stature, and, most of all, for all the safety and improvements that she brought her sport since her passing. This is the story of the leg...Read More

  • Mary Z. · Where does one even begin with a statement like that by you, June? Horse anatomy/physiology? The track condition? Her shoes? I think being astride a horse naked in a tasteful photo shoot(all three goodies covered) is less of a cry for attention than these ???? comments, but maybe that's just me. · 17 days ago ·

This blog edition takes a look at some signature events that have transpired over the last 137 years. Consider this if you will, a Trackside text scrapbook about the “Run for the Roses." “Mangled Horses, Maimed Jockeys,” a 6,400-word article splashed across the front-page of last Sunday’s New York Times, might have been a fair and useful piece of investigative journalism had it stuck to its scope: Rates of equine injuries and fatalities at some tracks, particularly Quarter Horse ven...Read More
  • Buckpasser · I don't know if anyone is aware but another horse broke down in New York yesterday and instead of euthanizing the horse, they put a splint on the leg and took him back in the van only to euthanize him later. The racing writer for the NYPost theorized that they did this because they did not want to do it in full view of the grandstand and because the horse had been claimed and the claim is no good if the horse dies on the track. So I guess Steve Crist is right that the NYTimes skewered the analysis by showing Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico. After all, the really killing field is at the great Safety accredited track run by the NYRA called Aqueduct. · 41 days ago ·

People in the Thoroughbred racing industry woke up on Sunday morning to find their sport under siege. The New York Times published a photo on Page 1 that depicted a horse dead on the track; it accompanied a lengthy investigative report blaming “drugs and lax oversight” for a high rate of fatal break...Read More

Then again so does the West Coast. I joke around a lot but America is a great country to live in and I have traveled and lived in other countries.
