  • DeadHeat · Speight IMO is the horse for Union to watch, not alpha. He ran very big over a very tring and very slow track. For a two year old to run in a race 9f that early is different and good. Could the competition have been weak? Yes, it is a strong possibility. However, if the colt is good enough the 9f foundation he has will give him a big edge over those, like Union Rags who are stretching out. · 125 days ago ·

  • likin sparks · I know where Mike is coming from, with this years race is kinda weak where half the competion has had a difficult time placing in the money so I wouldn't think the WOW factor will be there. As much as I haven't been sold on Stay Thirsty for him not to win by 7 or 10 lenghts would be a kick in the can. · 135 days ago ·

  • brooklyn.steve · Stay Thirsty should win the JCGC, which should make him the co fav for Horse of the Year with HDG. He has come along nicely, and while Flat Out will be a tough challenge, Mike Repole will be standing in the winners circle at the end of the day. · 135 days ago ·

Racing needs to bring its head out of the sand and into the light. The leaders of this sport need to make sure that it is not being cheapened and stand up and fight for what will improve it, rather than let others make decisions that just lead the sport deeper into oblivion.Read More

  • ChristineDix · I agree completely-best Preakness ever! Losing Easy Goer after siring only 99 foals was one of the biggest blows to breeding-as well as the loss of SS to Japan and his death at 16. And yes, I am still mad at PD for the ride! · 263 days ago ·

  • cleclair1994 · the way i saw it it was exactly the same race as the derby just a 1/16 shorter. shackleford takes the lead on on back stretch opens up at the top of the lane and animal kingdom runs at him. the only difference between the derby and the preakness was a 1/16. that is the difference between a triple crown possibility and shackleford being over bet the rest of the year. even dialed in ran the exact same race. he just had less horses to suck along by to end up finishing 4 and not 8. animal kingdom is the real horse. he obviously loves 1 1/4. that is the championship distance. not 1 3/16. · 263 days ago ·

The inclination to want to beat the favorite is a natural one. Most years on the Derby Trail, I happily fall into that pattern. Picking the Kentucky Derby favorite all spring is not nearly as much fun as tabbing a horse that is not so highly regarded. Some years though are different. The favorite is...Read More

  • LDP19 · I wonder why every horse can have a second chance but Mo. He was very under trained, and trained almost backwardsly. Pletcher revved him up for the wrong race then let him go with 2 easy half mile works in 4 weeks. The flip flop of venues was also not a fantastic decision. Mike made a mistake there, but everyone makes a few. Mo did not fold like a weak tent, in fact he fought pretty hard even though he, IMO did not look comfortable over that track. · 305 days ago ·

One of my all time faves.
All you have to say about why Easy Goer isn't one of the all time greatest horses ever is Pat Day. If a handful of other riders had ridden him, he most likely would have never lost a race.
  • humphrey · Have to disagree. EG had chronic fetlock problems and the rider did as well as he could. Horse always broke slow giving the field many lengths. I was sucked in too by this one but outside of his brilliant races in New York, he was not the same animal......Began to wonder when Is It True, thanks to a great reading of the race track by Laffit, beat him in the off going at Churchill,.,.,.the same track and conditions where he lost out to Sunday Silence. · 380 days ago ·

Easy Goer is one of my all-time favorite colts. But giving credit where it's due, Sunday Silence must have been lightning fast to have beaten Easy Goer 3 out of the 4 times that they faced each other. Because if you watch Easy Goer in his races without Sunday Silence, the Wood Memorial, the Travers, the Woodward, the JCGC, and the Suburban Handicap, that long, powerful, explosive stride that he had completely overwhelmed the fields that didn't include Sunday Silence. But one comment I must make, I don't think anyone questions Easy Goer as an all-time great. But besides the Ky. Derby, the Preakness, and the B.C. Classic, he almost never left the state of New York for any of his other races, yet no one questions his greatness. But because Zenyatta has almost never left the state of California for any other races, a lot of people question her greatness. Hopefully, after the 2010 racing season ends, they won't again.
