Older Comments about Domino...

Was reading in an October 1964 Thoroughbred Record in a column by Horace Wade that Domino as a yearling was tested over the Coney Island racetrack by his trainer Albert Cooper. The horse showed such amazing speed that Cooper couldn't believe his stop watch and tried him again the next day with the same result. But the rapid trials caused Domino to bow both front tendons. He raced under this infirmity for his career. He would stand for 24 hours under a cold spray before each race to ease the pain. Nevertheless, Domino won 19 of 25 races against the best of his generation.

  • Sullivan · The racing Domino, Henry of Navarre, American Eclipse and such performed was like a whole different sport. Henry of Navarre left no significant line in his wake and it is only Domino's success at that that makes it so he us remembered. Same as with Hindoo, who is ptobably one of the top 30 racers of all time · 663 days ago
  • Buckpasser · Hindoo factors in Hamburg's line as he was tail male from him. Hamburg factors in many top pedigrees on the dam side including Buckpasser, Seattle Slew etc. as a matter of fact Hamburg's great daughter Frizette, for whom the race is named, was the foundation mare for much of Marcel Broussacs' great French stud farm. He sent her to the slaughterhouse at 24 yrs old. He also was responsible for the sale of La Troienne to E.R.Bradley. Hamburg's other daughter Hamburg Belle was another top foundation mare as well. Tail male may be an issue but Hindoo's line dam wise is alive and well and still productive. · 663 days ago
Fantastic that Include carries this wonderful line
Completely forgotten horse. Great horse. He was undefeated as a two year old. The Black Whirlwind had such a tragic death :(.

  • cocoa2 · Not as forgotten as Henry of Navvarre, who vs. Domino could've been something, had he been sound. · 941 days ago
  • Buckpasser · Racing career forgotten as has been so many old timers. But a great influence on the breed remarkably so given the small number of foals he and his son Commando sired. · 941 days ago
What is the highest percent of Domino blood remaining in todays horses? Who to whom do they belong? I have been interested in this horse blood for the past several years. Thank-you for you time & sharing your knowledge! Lynda Simon, Moreau River Quarter Horses, Zeona,SD

  • buckpasser · Thanks spartan. Broad Brush also has a number of sons that are sires in Japan. Interestingly his nice daughter Broad Appeal is in bred to Domino on both sire and dam side through Alsab. · 942 days ago
  • buckpasser · Also Any time Equipoise is in a pedigree is a direct tail male to Domino from Equipoise 's sire Pennant. Also Shut Out and Stymie also descend tail male from Domino so any time they are in a pedigree, you will have straight line to Domino. · 942 days ago
Famous for his battle and rivalry, he was considered equal to Eclipse and Lexington, and sometimes the best until Man O' War came along, 26 years later.
An absolutely magnificant animal.
