  • travel_vic · I don't like the polycrap, it smells, gums up tails and throats etc., BUT since it is the surface I see everyday, I play it....I have a theory that the nature of a polytrack surface has to do MORE with the daily fluctuation in temperature and the drainage of the cushion MORE than the top surface itself, AND when it is close to wearing out, the front end bias is extraordinary.......Since about 10 tons of Jelly cord has been added here over the last two weeks, speed should NOT be to big a factor this weekend at Woodbine where just about all the races will be sprints. · 37 days ago ·

As I go through and look at the potential contenders for the Derby and the Oaks and their pedigrees, it gets me thinking – if money wasn’t an issue and I owned a mare, which sire would I have her bred to?Read More
  • cocoa2 · Speightstown seems to be based off his wives, as far as distance goes. Haynesfield was out of a distance running mare while Speightstown's sprinters are usually out of sprinters. He is a good pick for any mare, but if you're looking for a colt who wants 10f and the mommy only wanted 8f, I think Hat Trick or Street Cry would be your man. · 42 days ago ·

  • annmatt · As a footnote, I believe that IHA will get much more respect and will be treated like royalty in Japan. Look no further than Sunday Silence, the world's most successful stallion, who was rejected by American breeding interests. Also, there is so much misinformation about the Japanese Thoroughbred industry. Wikipedia has info about the extent to which the Japanese support the sport. Google Japan Bloodhorse Breeders Association Wiki. We could only wish for such support and dedication in the U.S. Charismatic is at one of the horses at JBBA stations. "The JBBA offers many programs to help small time thoroughbred breeders around the country. The stallions that they offer are often subsidized so that every breeder has an opportunity to breed to top stallions." I'm sad I won't get to visit Little Red in KY, but I'm more than a little encouraged that he will get the best mares, and his bloodline could use a dose of some outcross mares. I’m looking forward to soon to seeing some Little Reds making it to the track, and maybe one or two might make it to American shores. · 332 days ago ·

  • Winplacsho · It's nice to see Alternation back, it seemed like he fell off the map after that subpar effort in the Jim Dandy. • brent.austin.neikirk · I think The Factor is a brilliant runner with enough stamina in his pedigree to stretch that great speed he has to the 10f Derby distance. Now, as far as his running style goes, I agree with Zipse in that I like a horse that can rate for the Derby and even more I like fast closers with an awesome, strong late kick like Afleet Alex and Street Sense. Though, I'm not dismissing The Factor by any means. I will use him as long as he has a good 9f run in the Arkansas Derby. Obviously, Uncle Mo is the one to beat and I think he will have no problem with the 10f Derby distance, though some would disagree. He has showed that he can rate and I think he's getting enough stamina from his BMS, Arch, to excel at the longer distances. One horse that I like a lot right now is PrePeg. I was at Churchill when his daddy won it in '00. The San Felipe was very impressive and he has a great pedigree and gets plenty of stamina from the bottom half with horses like Summer Squall, his BMS, and The Axe. And having the great Secretariat in the X-passing position is a key part in passing the LH gene. PrePeg also has many great Reine-de-course mares like Blackball, Weekend Surprise, Source Sucree, Lavendula and more. I'm anxious to see how well he does in the SA Derby. I think this guy is starting to peak! · 786 days ago ·
