Brereton Jones’s Believe You Can, with regular rider Rosie Napravnik aboard, looked like she would, then looked like she wouldn’t, but finally did win Saturday’s 45th running of the $500,000 Fair Grounds Oaks, the 3-year-old filly counterpart to Sunday’s $1 million Louisiana Derby. Read More

  • Floridaf · You made very good points about Yara and Zo Impressive in regards to some of their previous races. Personally, I think Disposablepleasure is much better than her 4th place Davona Dale finish would suggest; just look back to her gritty win in the Demoiselle. I believe the match-up between Eden's Moon and Reneesgotzip will be the best of the weekend in the 3-yo filly division. Maybe we can get another BL/HDG rivalry going. Great analysis, Brian! · 47 days ago ·

  • BrianAppleton · Thanks Ashley! I agree with regard to Disposablepleasure. The Davona Dale was her first race of the year and I think she will benefit off that effort, but I don't think she'll get to the top two. All of these fillies are coming into the races looking really good. · 47 days ago ·

Juvenile fillies are not supposed to be able to do it like that. Stumbling badly out of the gate, Disposablepleasure caused more than one chalk eating weasel to rue their decision to back the favorite in Saturday’s 90th running of the Grade 2, $200,000 Demoiselle Stakes today at Aqueduct. It took a ...Read More

  • Winplacsho · It was amazing that she won despite the horrible start, but when she got rolling on the turn, then stopped cold and re-rallied was remarkable! You don't see that from 99.9% of horses, 2yo filly or not. Fantastic performance! · 171 days ago ·

  • BrianAppleton · I was so impressed with this performance, two-year-old fillies don't run like this usually!! A very special filly. I love that she won her maiden by 11 lengths on the front end almost all the way, and then overcame a bad start, running dead-last to win the Demoiselle. · 171 days ago ·
