travel_vic · THEY are ignorant of one of the best female runners of all time. There is a great book, reviewed by people in the know and hailed as describing the 70;s for what they were. Called Decade of Champions, it hits the nail on the head. Author Robinson CORRECTLY describes that time as one of the best periods of excellence since the breed was established. · 116 days ago ·

dubby30 · Unfortunately, this has nothing at all to do with Rachel, this has more to do with Jess Jackson and people's hatred of this man than anything the filly did during her career. People hold Jackson to a different standard because he campaigns his horses to be the best of the best at all times colt, filly, 2yr old or whatever. He expects to be able to say at the end of a campaign that I put my horse in a position to define its greatness to the greatest extent. Fans expect more from his horses, other owners and trainers expect more, the media and generally anyone that has anything to do with horse racing all expect Jess Jackson's horses to jump through every hoop available. On the other hand we dont see that type of excellence expected from other owners, its just whatever the other owner would like to do, and there is nothing wrong with that but the debate from many that denigrate Rachel is one that you'll never see again unless the horse is owned by Jess Jackson. Blind Luck is a very nice filly, but she too would have been 20+ lengths back if she had run in the 09 Oaks or Mother Goose. She wouldnt have entered many other races against Rachel and there is nothing wrong with that but the pass that you are referring to here is not directly related to the horse but certainly the connections. This is sad considering male colts are not challenged as much as Rachel. · 486 days ago ·

Of course the bar was raised incredibly high and expectation were through the roof, but I also thought she ran a good campaign. It was a shame to see her go out on losing note, she was too good for that to happen. I would have loved to see her in the Breeders' Cup! · 486 days ago ·

I cannot definitively say whether any of any of the vitriol that I read on many blogs directed against Rachel was indirectly connected with people's general dislike for Jackson, but I know that people were saying awful things about her throughout her 2010 campaign which were totally undeserved. zatt · I am saddened that many have stated to me that Blind Luck is a better horse than Rachel, and use the 2010 season as proof. While I think there were many causes of this thinking, it simply can not be substantiated with objective reasoning. We did not use to treat our true superstars this way. · 486 days ago ·

LDP · IMO all RA needed was some rest and then a proper comeback. Instead she sat for about 4 or 5 months, then was rushed to make a prep to make the AB. If she had just been given some more time to properly work up to her 2010 debute she may still have lost or may not have won as dominatingly, but i think she would've been set up for a much better season. Even now, I think if she had been allowed to run in her last two probable starts she would've dominated. The PE was nothing to scoff at. Persistantly was ridden to perfection that day, and TBH, had LAT not been there RA wins, and that same goes for LAT w/o RA. Blind Luck is a wonderful filly and yes I agree she was fatigued and that the track probably had something to do w/ her loss, however, not once was RA so well beaten in 2010 as BL was in her 11' debut. · 486 days ago ·

The Preakness, skip a month, then back to back races against more boys of the highest calibre? Thank god Rachel didn't break down on the track. Have these folks ever heard of body soreness and bruising of the hooves? She's a horse, though a magnificent one, she's flesh and blood. She can take just so much. Poor Blind Luck. · 486 days ago ·

chris23316 · What some folks don't realize is that sometimes RACE HORSES DO NOT WANT TO RACE ANYMORE! Rachel demonstrated what she could accomplish when it was enjoyable to her. Her lackluster tries was her just obeying the humans that control her. The horse in her wanted no part of the game anymore. Good for Rachel. Enjoy your retirement my beautiful girl. I believe history will be kinder to Rachel. And, in agreement with poster RachelAlex, I'm glad someone is talking about RA again and I miss her, too.
