In a time that thoroughbred racing, on a world-wide scale, boils over with incredible fillies and race-mares world wide, sometimes blue-collar, hard working mares like the 5yr.old Irish mare Deem get overlooked. With the U.S. embroiled in the "great debate" between Zenyatta and Rachel Alexandra, Japan bubbling over with great filly/mares like Vodka, Red Desire, and Buena Vista, France with Ashalanda, Stacelita, and Daryakana, and Great Britain and Ireland with the likes of mares like Goldikova, Dar Re Mi, Sariska, Midday, and Rainbow View, Deem's performance at this years 2010 Dubai Racing Carnival really stands tall. Tuning up for Meydan in Saudi Arabia at Janadriya Racecourse, Deem raced in October 09' and won the Usual (Open) Handicap. Then returned to Janadriya in December to run 2nd in the Normal Cup. Then finishing off her Saudi run in January in the Crown Prince Cup, running a very game 4th. Deem came into Dubai having won the 09' Cape Verdi at Nad Al Sheba, and running 5th in the 09' Balanchine. But in 2010 at Meydan, Deem beat a very good field of fillies and mares to win the Balanchine, flying from last to nail down the win at the wire. Then, on Saturday, Dubai World Cup day, in a very unexpected performance given the players in the field, Deem went wide, and flew late, to get by Cavalryman, not an easy task in itself, and nail down a very solid 4th in the 2010 Sheema Classic. Beaten only by Dar Re Mi, Buena Vista, and Spanish Moon. So, IMO, Deem once again has proven her metal in Dubai. Having a great 2010 carnival run at Meydan.
