  • kay.robinett · Chelsea, Zenyatta has a chestnut half brother so she would have gotten a gene for chestnut from her mother. Tapit has many chestnut offspring so also carries the chestnut gene. · 1124 days ago
  • Sullivan · On an unrelatd note, in the longing for Palimino horses, breeders often cross a chestnut and a palimino. They say they find more success getting color this way than two paliminos, which generally ends up as a chestnut. In Suffolk Punches, all horses are some variation of chesnut (no t). This is because the two base colors for horses are red and black.l · 1124 days ago

Terrible news! Lets hope no more Swamp Fever is found... from TDN:As a result of a case of swamp fever being discovered at Cologne racecourse, last year's Arc heroine Danedream (Ger) (Lomitas {GB}) has to enter quarantine and therefore misses Sunday's renewal. The finding of the single case of the highly contagious viral disease, which causes severe anaemia, resulted in the horse in question being euthanized and all stabled at the Cologne track put under quarantine for three months, a time span which can be prolonged if more cases occur.

  • karen.sweatman.9 · I guess you'd have to ask Danedream if she minds leaving her homeland and the people who love and care for her, not to mention, spoil her rotten. She is a national treasure of sorts in Germany where racing is in a downward spiral. She'll just be another horse in Japan and I'm quite sure she doesn't care what piece of horse flesh they decide to mate her with. Japan, it's people and it's racing industry has nothing to do with my point concerning Danedream. I'd feel the same if she were coming to the states. She belongs to Germany, she should stay there. · 1607 days ago
  • Buckpasser · Given the situation in Germany, Danedream would never have stayed there. Like IHA, the Japanese will treat her right and breed her to some of the best stallions in the world. They are committed to improving their racing stock and are doing just that. · 1607 days ago
AtTheRaces.com is reporting that Danedream's bid for back to back wins in the G1 Prix De l'Arc De Triomphe is all but over now. Cologne Racecourse, where she is stabled in Germany, was dramatically put into quarantine on Monday the story says after a horse stabled there tested positive for an equine infection of the blood. All horses stabled there cannot leave, including Danedream. The story can be found presently on the front page of AtTheRaces.com. That's really heartbreaking news, because Danedream's a proven top shelf filly who deserved to have the chance to defend her Arc crown. You don't hear of other fillies with a win in both the Arc and the King George on their resume'. I wish Danedream and all of her connections well, and hope she eventually comes out of this quarantine safely.
No Arc for Danedream this year.....

  • timgsmith10 · Ill take Orfevre.. · 1638 days ago
  • footlick · For the older set, Orfevre and Meandre are certainly threats. Shareta could run another bang up race as well as Snow Fairy if they decide to run. I never decide until all the preps are done and I've analyzed the results and figured out who I think will improve and who will not. If everyone comes with their "A" game, she will have to run a better race than last year, jmho. · 1638 days ago
Zarkava is not a better horse than Danedream, the ARC record is not Zarkava's, is it now? They say Danedream wasn't well before the Saint Cloud. I tend to believe that. They also say Secretariat was sick before the Whitney. Could be, makes sense. Let's see how the little German mare finishes out the year before she is judged.

Awesome race today!
WOW !!!!! She did it !
Faces some serious competition tomorrow in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud at 1 1/2 miles for 4yr+ (an automatic berth into the Breeders’ Cup Turf). She faces Galikova, Meandre and Cirrus des Aigles.
  • AmbitiousD · I heard Cirrus des Aigles scratched because of inflammation in his leg. · 1709 days ago

Whose was waiting for her return? Nice win today in G1 Grosser Preis von Baden!
This is the Top filly in the World right now. How the F@@K is she 20th????.....come on people !

  • cugel the clever · Not only the best 3yo filly in the world, but possibly the best active thoroughbred in the world right now. But, don't expect myopic American fans to look beyond their borders. Danedream would crush any of the 3yo or older horses, males or females, currently favoured for a 2011 Eclipse. · 1920 days ago
  • travel_vic · you cannot say that with gusto. Over the years I have seen many 'unbeatable' Euros, OUT of their game plan on these tight turned courses, lose for no other reason than the very talented horse confronted a situation that it had not be prepared for. · 1920 days ago
