I think that he should be put back two 6 or 7 furlongs. Ten is just too much. He's got the speed though!
I love this horse, but Daddy Long Legs just absolutely is not a 10f horse. He doesn't stay that trip effectively enough to be a threat to win at group/graded stakes level. Today made the 5th career start at 10f for Daddy Long Legs. He's now finished stone motherless last in 4 of those 5 starts at 10f. Personally, I thought Mike De Kock should've dropped him back in trip to a mile and sent him to the Burj Nahaar with an eye toward the Godolphin Mile on world cup night.

Any other 138th Derby or 139th Preakness horses other than Daddy Long Legs and Dullhan Racing this week? I know from the Belmont Atigun is going agian.

Firstly, I'm a big fan of Daddy Long Legs and very much want to see him do well in Dubai. That being said, his 4th in the Gloria De Campeao Handicap is the first time in 4 attempts he hasn't finished last when racing at 10f. He was last in the Ky. Derby, Secretariat Stakes, & Irish Champion Stakes in his other 3 attempts at 10f. But even in this race he looked tapped for speed on the business end of the race in the final 1 to 1-1/2 furlongs, which leads me to believe that 10f may be a shade beyond his optimum. If Coolmore are hoping for a big payday out of Daddy Long Legs on world cup night then the G2 Godolphin Mile is really the only race that realistically affords him that chance, IMO. I just think he'd be outclassed taking on the kinds of horses that will be in the Dubai World Cup or Dubai Duty Free fields, and if they ask him to go longer than 10f than I honestly don't believe he'd even get the trip. They should drop him back in trip to a mile and run him next in the G3 Burj Nahaar followed by the G2 Godolphin Mile, IMO.
entered in the Gloria De Campeao Stakes for a purse of $150,000 at Meydan on March 2. his odds right now are 4/1 & he drew the position number 1.

  • northport · Looks like he took 4th, still an improvement from his recent efforts. I agree Cocoa, while I don't mind synthetics, Tapeta is definitely my least favourite, it is very slow · 109 days ago ·

Since he ran so well on tapeta in winning the UAE Derby last year, I was really hoping the Firebreak Stakes might afford Daddy Long Legs a chance to turn what's been awful form lines for sometime now around and start going in a more positive direction. I was hoping he'd run big and maybe make the frame or even something like a 4th or 5th place finish back on this surface. Sure didn't work out that way though, as he ended up finishing 13th of 14. I really like this horse, but Daddy Long Legs is very clearly a horse who's lost his way.

  • ILuvTurfRacing · I know DLL hasn't raced since finishing well back in the G1 Irish Champion Stakes back in September, so It's not like I was expecting him to win or even make the frame for that matter, though I was hoping he might hit the board. I suspected he might need this first run, but there's a huge difference between needing the run and finishing 13th of 14 on the same track he galloped the UAE Derby field off their feet over just a year ago. No one can logically question that DLL has been handled by two world class trainers in Aidan O'Brien and Mike De Kock. But something has caused what looked a very promising horse a year ago to go completely sideways and off the track?? Sure hope Mike De Kock figures it out soon!! · 124 days ago ·

entered in the Firebreak Stakes (G3) at Meydan for tomorrow.
Although still owned by Coolmore, both Daddy Long Legs and Treasure Beach are currently in training in Dubai with Mike De Kock. Neither had performed great in 2012, so perhaps a change of scenery is best, and Daddy Long Legs clearly loves the Tapeta.
There are a lot of questions surrounding Churchill Downs' choice to include this race, the lone Turf and European Stakes. Read More

  • Ann Maree · Thank you for giving the nod to the overseas star, Snow Fairy! She is truly awesome and has the heart of a champion, male or female. The most exciting re-match to me will be Snow Fairy and the great German wondermare, Danedream, in the Arc on Oct. 7. They share similar "Seabiscuit-like" beginnings: Snow Fairy was bought back for $2,300 US when she failed to generate any interest at auction as a yearling; Danedream sold as a yearling at auction for about $11,300 USD (about the same as I'll Have Another as a yearling) and she now is considered the best all-time German horse ever. Both I think are smaller than average, being referred to as “diminutive”, “petite”, though I don’t know their actual heights or weights. Danedream set a record in the Arc last year; Snow Fairy set a record in the Irish Champion Stakes on Saturday. The Arc is looking like a clash of the titans, with international stars like Orfevre (Japan TC winner), Dunaden (2011 Melbourne Cup winner), possibly Camelot, but for my money, all eyes will be on Snow Fairy and Danedream to be the match of the decade! · 282 days ago ·
